Wha would u guys say if the Clippers traded Kaman and minni pick for (drum roll) Paul Pierce?
Adding a somewhat young vet to fill the long lost SF position would give both leadership and scoring to this young Clipper team ..
Thoughts?
Paul Pierce?

Re: Paul Pierce?
This trade has been considered many times over the years, but in my opinion, Paul Pierce would be an excellent fit to this current Clipper squad, but at the price of both Chris Kaman and the Minni pick, I feel like that's asking way too much.
1. The Clippers have cap space to go out and spend on a free agent SF either this year or the next.
2. With the potential of the Minni pick being a gold mine, if the Clippers fail to buy a FA SF, then they can draft one.
3. True Centers are hard to come by in this league, so I feel like Kaman has a lot of worth despite the difference in talent between Pierce in Kaman
4. While Pierce is a team leader and still an amazing player, you have to wonder how many years he has left in him.

Not likely. Most Clippers fans want to either keep the Minny pick or use it in trade only as part of a package for a resigned Dwight Howard or Chris Paul. Long shot on acquiring these players maybe, but I can't see them moving it for a veteran player like Pierce, given the age of core players Griffin, Gordon and Jordan.

Re: Paul Pierce?
I wouldn't mind trading for Pierce if the Celtics are willing, but I wouldn't include the Twolves pick. I would still include Kaman and we can add a young player and a future 1st if we are able to do that.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

I'm not sure the Celtics would do such a deal. Besides, getting Paul Pierce at this stage of his career would be helpful, but risky. He will be 34 years old next season. How many good years does he have left? The one good thing about Pierce aging is that he never relied heavily on athleticism.

Re: Paul Pierce?
I was holding onto a tiny ounce of hope last offseason that we could have signed Pierce if Doc walked and they decided to blow it up. Obviously that didn't happen.
Pierce does not fit with the age group moving forward, but I think that it is important that these young players have strong veteran presences in the locker room. Pierce has been the man on a team that has struggled on the outside looking in, and he has been the man on a championship roster. He knows the environment that it takes to win and could be a contributor from example, but also on the court in a way that would be reminiscent of Sam.
Due to his age, he is not worth the lotto pick. He'll be 34 before next season starts, and who knows how many good years he has left in him. Boston is looking to have cap room next year with only Pierce, Rondo and Bradley on the books. I'm sure they're going to make a pitch to Howard. If they would accept Kaman and 2nd or something, then they could probably bring in a couple of heavy hitters next year and start a new of Celtics basketball. If they want much more, then I don't think we'd be that interested.

Re: Paul Pierce?
If the Clipper and Cs do make a Pierce deal, the Minn 2012 pick would have to be like top 5 protected. If the Clippers kept the pick in 2012 then, the Cs would get the Clips unprotected no. 1 in 2014. That would lessen the risk considerably.
If BG is a true superstar--in the same league as Rose and Durant-- the Clips will be a contender by 2013 and 2012 is not at all out of the question. Pierce will be a huge addition in that context. He is not stopgap, he is over-the-top.
Jordan
Griffin
Pierce
Gordon
That is a very nice core.
If the Clips can get Iggy from the Sixers for the same price, that is a better deal.

Re: Paul Pierce?
Celtics fan here. What if the trade was adjusted to be Pierce and Clips 2012 pick (Thunder traded it to us in Perkins trade) for Kaman and Minni 2012 pick. This way your more moving back about 10 slots (perhaps more if the team really clicks) instead of losing the pick completely.
Also since you need a sf what would be your thoughts on Jeff Green. Would you do Jordan for Green? I know you would prefer to traded Kaman but we'd prefer the youth and lower injury risk of Jordan. Both teams would be trading from a position of depth and addressing a weakness.

Pierce will retire a Celtic, it would be a slap in the face to him if the Celtics ever traded or even considered trading him.

I never understood this way of thinking. How is it a slap in the face to Paul Pierce. I love what Paul has done the last few years and has had a great career with the Celtics, but we've paid him north of $100 million for his services and we shouldn't keep him, just to keep him.
Danny Ainge is worried about taken care of the CELTICS, not Paul Pierce. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
BTW, Paul would be an amazing pick up for the Clippers and he would be going back to his hometown. The C's need to look towards the future. This would be a good time to do so.
