Did we have a shot at acquiring D-Will?

Post#1 » by PG3 » Thu May 5, 2011 8:21 am

Looking back moments before the trade deadline, did we have the assets to pull off getting Deron WIlliams from the Jazz? Or did the Jazz not want to ship him to another western conference team?

Maybe a package of Baron Davis, Al Faruq Aminu, 2011 1st and Minny's 2012 first for Deron Williams. Would the Jazz have biten on that?

Mo Will is solid but i just cant get over the fact that if a superstar PG like that was available, the Clippers should have at least tried to acquire him.

SG. Eric Gordon
SF. Ryan Gomes

Highly doubt it - Cav's only took BD because we gave them our pick. NJ had a great package. Even if we included Kaman, Minn. 1st, and a few more pieces, I think the NJ package would have still been better.

nets gave a high 1st this year and a 1st in 2013, Derrick Favors who was the #3 pick last year and Devin Harris who is much better than Baron Davis with a better contract.. their offer trumps yours and its not even close.

No. NJ gave up their future for him, he's staying there.

D-Howard? I think that could be s a possibility.

I don't think the odds were in our favor to pull off a deal like that at the time. New Jersey's offer trumped what we could/would have offered. As you said, they may not have wanted to move him to another team within the conference. Moving forward, our chances at one of the 2012 free-agents increase as some of the likely competitors have given up their assets for Deron and Melo. Whether we can actually make something happen or not is anybody's guess, but our odds have definitely improved within the last couple of months.

I think New Jersey clearly overpaid for D-Will, Jazz got a nice package for him.

I like what Utah did. It was out of left-field, but they were proactive and made a good decision for their future. The downside for New Jersey is that it wasn't an extend & trade deal. If they can convince Howard to come, then it was a great move for them. If they lose Deron, then they've set themselves back for a good little while.
