Ironies abound. Smart coached the horrible pre-King Cavs. Scott coached the horrible post-King Cavs. Brown only coached the Cavs with LeBron. Can't see any reason to think that Brown would have made Smart's Cav team better, or that he would have made Scott's post LeBron team better, or that Smart or Scott would have been much worse than Brown with those LeBron Cavs teams. So whose the winning coach?

Can they just apologize to Smart and resign him? Have Riley say that he made a boo boo and that he's sorry

I know this can't happen, but we should have allowed Nelson for one more season (even though it was unbearable already) and let Smart in on this upcoming season since it may be a shortened season or not...i just feel the candidates aren't out there this year.

I like Laurence Frank, but i'm not sure he's even in the running. I like him because he's young, coached a good Nets team and has that playoff experience with them as well as the Celtics.

Where did you guys read about Jeff Van Gundy and Jerry Sloan refusing to interview? Also why in the world is Mike Brown the frontrunner? I don't get it. Why the hell do they like him? What exactly is his coaching philosophy anyways? Ugg only the Warriors can do this badly.

First post here...... ESPN's board has become stale and annoying.....

Brown, Shaw, Frank, Casey....... decent list of candidates. I hope the Warriors get some time with McHale, if he's interested. But the darkhorse that I hope they go after is Grizzlies' assistant coach Dave Joerger. He's a young guy who over the course of 7 years won 5 titles as a head coach in the IBA, CBA, and then the D-League. He's been an assistant for the Grizzlies for the past 4 years as they've risen, and now seems to be Hollins' right-hand guy. I think he's going to be an outstanding NBA head coach very soon, would love if it was for the Warriors.
If I don't have anything funny to say, can I still have a signature?

I have a hard time evaluating CBA coaches. I felt the same way about Musselman when the first picked him. Lots of Minor league success, coaching pedigree, worked under Chuck Daly, etc. I figured that a guy who had a ton of success at the lower levels would kow how to roll with the punches, mix and match lineups, use everyone he had, develop young guys, etc., etc.

Didn't work out that way. Muss' method turned out to be running his top 5 or 6 guys into the ground. Part of the most worthless basketball front office troika I can remember, Muss/Saint/Bobby R. Got whiney right away.
Obviously, good new coaches come from somewhere. But I'll be damned if I can figure out how you pick them.

I really tired of Riley's talk about this team making the playoffs next yr. Just to appease fans...He should hold some accounability and put his job and the line for making these types of comments. Just put up and shut up should be their motto!!

FYI, the guarantee the Warriors will be a playoff team next season comes directly from owner Joe Lacob to the team's 2011-2012 season ticket holders. Larry Riley is being held responsible for bringing in the necessary players needed for whoever is coaching the Warriors next season to get the team into the playoffs. Joe Lacob's motto is clearly either get me the results I am demanding or I will replace you with some one who will with Keith Smart being exhibit A.

Lacob's clearly got some balls in his trousers for sending out and signing that contract.

Hardly - what are the stakes if the Warriors don't make the playoffs? A PR signing event? Empty words, if you ask me.

Exactly....not really much of a big gamble if you ask me.

Depends on whether you are a players like Monta Ellis who had a a career year and played your ass off for the Warriors compared to someone like Andris Biedrins who would actually have to "take it" while thousands of very angry season ticket holders really get in your face and literally shove it up your your ass for wasting their hard earned money because you failed so miserably to help the Warriors make the playoffs while signing autographs during this so called PR event.

So my question is is this a 2-3 yr project with the next coach? If he isn't successful, then Lacob and co will fire him and get another coach???

lol, ya. It's nice to hear him saying "playoffs" but really there's not much of a downside for Lacob if we fail again. A disgruntled fanbase gets more disgruntled and he can just say "Cohan left a mess and we're still cleaning it up!"

Like I've said before, this is the offseason where we need to make winning decisions in player movement.

Joe Lacob has made his fortune as a businessman who demands results. Lacob has stated he has fired many CEO's of companies he has taken over so why would it be any different with the Warriors? Any employee who doesn't deliver the kind of results Lacob's demanding should fully expect to be fired. Lacob has already fired the entire Warriors training and scouting staff. Another example is Lacob earlier last season said he wanted 40 wins but when Smart could only deliver 36 wins he was sent packing. Whoever is hired as the next head coach needs to get the Warriors to the playoffs next season to furfill Lacob's promise to the season ticket holders. With Lacob calling the shots for the Warriors its going to be put out or get out.

I thought if Warriors don't make the playoffs, the Warriors are going to give a percentage of the money back to the season ticket holders?

Stability is what a young team needs!! Players like Steph and Monta are getting older and can't have a new coach every time this happens. Look at Boston when Rivers didn't have Garnett and Allen Ainge's still kept him as a coach....Grizzls kept their coach around and after making a good trade look at what they have brought....Players played for Smart and if Lee wasn't out for a freak injury you could probably add another 7 wins to that total.

I'd rather see Lacob blow it up start from scratch and rebuilt it the right way with no hampering contracts. But that will be hard with the new CBA
