Memphis Grizzlies guard Tony Allen was selected to the 2010-11 NBA All-Defensive Second Team, becoming the first Grizzlies player to earn All-Defensive honors, the league announced today. Named to an All-Defensive Team for the first time in his career, Allen led the Second Team with 23 points overall, including seven First Team votes.
One of the league’s most aggressive perimeter defenders, Allen led the Grizzlies this season with a career-high 1.79 steals per game. He topped all NBA players by averaging 4.14 steals per 48 minutes, which was over an entire theft higher than second-place Chris Paul (3.13) and the highest mark the Association had seen since Nate McMillan in 1993-94.
After finishing fifth in the NBA in steals average despite playing just 20.8 minutes per contest, the 6-4, 213-pound guard placed fourth (highest among perimeter players) in the 2010-11 Kia NBA Defensive Player of the Year voting behind Orlando’s Dwight Howard (winner), Boston’s Kevin Garnett and Dallas’ Tyson Chandler.

If he finished fourth in the DPOY voting he should be in the first team (over Kobe).
But second team is also not so bad - good for Tony!
Gratz.

Well deserved. One of the biggest catalysts of the Grizz success this season. Hopefully he'll see ~30 minutes a game over the entire season next year.

he was 4th in DPOY vote and came in 6th overall in the All-Defense team vote. I know I was confused too. they didn't vote consistently because they probably didn't consider him a "first team" guy. he obviously led all votes for 2nd team.

With consistent MPG next year (still boggles the mind that Hollins was giving him DNP-CDs while starting Henry early in the season), he should be first team next year with an outside shot for DPOY (wings rarely win IIRC).

Has to be one of the most meaningless things ever. Kobe first team? Huh. KG first team? Maybe last year.

Come on! Kobe doesnt deserve 1st team! But Damn i dont know any PF in the game other than KG that deserves 1st team! He is the Celtics defensive Anchor (Unbelieveable that people thought that it was Perkins), without him, the Celtics wouldnt be ANYTHING near good on the defensive end of the court!
BTW i still can´t figure out how Tony didn´t get the SG pos on 1st team... Unbelieveable!
Huge Tony Allen Fan!
