The #19 Pick And Diop For Marvin Williams Trade Idea

Post#1 » by BigSlam » Tue May 17, 2011 7:40 pm

I thought that Geaux_Hawks proposal deserved it's own thread.

What are your thoughts?

Marvin 7.2 mln 3 more yrs essentially adds a yr to our Diop obligation.

In O.P.'s scenario I'd much rather keep Klay Thompson for ourselves.

BWAHAHAHAHAAAA Marvins blows.

I'd rather keep our 19th and draft a player who's raw with upside a la Honeycutt, Singleton.

Well I am not trying to over value Marvin, but his production only saw a fall because of Jamal Crawford. I mean if you go and look back at his previous years, he shows that he was a player on the rise. Even if you take a look at advanced metrics throughout the years, they will show he is a quality player.

I mean it seems like fair value, when you take into consideration that it's a weak pick and Diop does nothing for you except maybe block shots, but Kwame Brown can do that at a cheaper rate can't he??

Marvel, Honeycutt is Landry Fields/Josh Childress; Singleton is a basically a Mbah a Moute type player. Tobias Harris will be forced to play PF since he is so slow.

marvin as we know him on the hawks blows... underwhelmed his first 2 years, never lived up to the hype and has seemingly regressed. but deep down, does he have the talent to ever make a jump to being a productive starter? his contract is scary and honestly i have no clue what the hawks were thinking when they gave it to him, but maybe he just needs a change of scenery. i think he needs to get away from atlanta where he will always be remember as bust and start fresh somewhere else. he needs to create an identity. its obvious he wont be a star. so he needs to refine his game and create a niche - rebounder? defender? 6th man scoring machine? 3pt specialist?

there really is no reason that marvin shouldnt be able to do what luol deng did this year for the bulls.

that being said, too rich for my blood. i'll take cunningham the much much cheaper but equally as effective version of marvin.

As long as were on the topic of possible trades, here is another one that was brought up in LA's paper. Forgive me if this is off topic, perhaps we can just make the thread about trade ideas 2.0 or something. Figured this would be the best place to post this trade idea though, here is the article:

http://articles.latimes.com/2011/may/13 ... s-20110514

2) Charlotte point guard D.J. Augustin ($3.2 million) and center DeSagana Diop ($6.9 million) for Odom, Devin Ebanks ($788,872) and a 2014 first-round draft pick.

Augustin, 23, is a quick point guard who can score and pass but doesn't do quite enough to break Charlotte's bank for an extension in what will be a contract year.

The Bobcats get out of paying Diop $14.3 million over the next two seasons, fully immerse themselves in "Khloe & Lamar" fever and hope the Lakers crater in a few years with that draft pick.

Diop has averaged only 2.1 points and 3.8 rebounds in his career, becoming a pricey backup to Andrew Bynum.

Of note later in the article:

And yes, Odom has been in all three trades but is valuable because of his talent level and two remaining contract years, including a partially guaranteed $8.2 million in 2012-13.

To kind of tie this back into the draft pick trading idea, what if we managed to trade up a few spots by trading our 9th and 19th and grab Kemba? Obviously trading DJ would leave a huge whole at PG. MJ loves Kemba and I would be more than happy to be able to nap Kemba. Problem is, what motivation would a team ahead of us have to trade out of drafting Kemba? If you could get Kemba some how, then this is defiantly a trade that would benefit us I think. Odom's contract ends in 2 years so it wouldn't affect our cap situation but it would give us a player to bring some type of "star" (used very lightly) power and some real good talent. Kemba at PG, Hendo, Jack, Odom, Kwame and find some way to trade Diaw for something. It would be a roster in transition, but it might just be worth it.

I would do the LA if they threw in a few of those second round picks from this year.

The Hawks trade; I wouldn't touch at all.

Why would LA make that trade? If they are interested I'm game.

Interestingly enough it was from an LA newspaper. DJ would be the get for them. They desperately need a PG and they MAY feel that DJ is the man. Who knows, I thought it was an interesting proposal. If we could get Kemba or Knight in the draft I would be all over that trade. I might be all over it regardless...
