Brett Lawrie was being trained as a 2nd base man in Milwaukee.... then the Jays started him as a 3rd baseman because AA had faith that Hill would bounce back

as a result Lawrie is our future 3rd baseman and Hill looks to be playing himself out of Toronto. Jays also have no other options in the minor any time soon at 2nd base. or atleast anything of substance.

also this blocks the other big prospect Thames from 3rd base..... Thames and Lawrie were the highlights of the JAYS preseason, but now play the same position.

can Lawrie be put back at 2B now?...... probably not
but Lawrie would have more value at 2B also because of the way he hits.

as a result only way Thames is not trade bait is if Snider screws up royally in LF..... which sux for JAYS also cause how much they invested in Snider and Thames is a worse defender in the OF than him anyway.

Thams at 3B.. Lawrie at 2B..... now that would sound good for a decade to come

Third base is arguably more of a concern. And its a more natural position for Lawrie as well.

I have faith that Hill can at least be average, and if not AA has stockpiled enough assets to trade for another 2B when the time is right.

Lawrie was also regarded as one of the worst fielding second basemen scouts had ever seen he was terrible. At this point keeping him in the IF itself is a major bonus.

worst thing you could do is start screwing around with the guy's role like the yanks with chamberlain. see if the guy can handle 3rd and at worst, you can pick up a FA 2nd baseman

I fully expect a middle infield of Adieny and Escobar at SS/2B in the near future, but not sure who to expect at which spot - likely Escobar getting shifted.
