This guy's situation reminds me quite a bit of Desmond Bishop. Had great film and put up great numbers, but he just didn't run fast enough. If you watch the film it's obvious that the guy is a football player.

OT- By the way looking back at his draft profile and what people on this site said about Bishop isn't it amazing that he turned out to be so good in pass coverage? From the time he took over at ILB I don't remember even one TE torching us for the rest of the season.

Are you kidding? Rodgers was best friends with Ruvell Martin. He turned out okay.

Not to mention Poppinga has managed to survive and sustain his career in the NFL despite not possessing ideal physical gifts. He's probably somebody who's brain Elmore should be picking.

I predicted he would wind up with more career sacks than Brooks Reed. Very good sack artist, just don't ask him to do much else. Tends to play with blinders on, but if he can get his inside shoulder beyond the tackle, it's a sack, period. He rotated with D'Aundre Reed so he put up those numbers in about 60% of the snaps that Brooks Reed got. Teams did have a lot of success running right at him, he just doesn't know how to use his hands to beat a block. Sounds like Poppinga, no?

FWIW the other guy who prominently leapt out of a pool was Jarron Gilbert, who couldn't make a desperate Bears DL and is going to be out of football despite being a 2009 2nd round pick. Elmore in the 6th is ridiculous value, even if he winds up as bad as Gilbert it's only a 6th. It's a cool stunt but it's like Darius Miles touching the top of the backboard; it means nothing as far as sport-specific skill goes.

What was Jarron Gilbert's deal anyway? For how big and athletic he was, he must have really sucked and/or not been a very hard worker to wash out this quickly...

He was a 285 pound defensive tackle, wasn't quick enough to move to end, wasn't strong or tough enough to play inside. Had leverage and pad level problems, no clue how to use his hands. If he couldn't beat his guy with his initial burst he was a major detriment on the defense, and guards/tackles in the NFL are a hell of a lot quicker than ones in the WAC. I've heard his work ethic wasn't real good either. Kind of similar to Vernon Gholston, a one-trick pony tweener that couldn't adapt.

Elmore is hard to get a handle of. On one hand:
