Re: Official Raptors 2011 NBA Draft Thread, Part 8
To me, the Kanter discussion is pointless from now on. We're most likely discussing another teams pick. As for the point guards, I agree with Zarko. The only way you take either of them is if you believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that he can become a star. But remember that Bayless is still young and was a much higher touted prospect than either Knight or Walker. I'm actually warming up to the idea of risking the pick on Biyombo after we dropped. I think it is a perfect situation to take a high risk, high reward type of guy like Bismack and throw him to the dogs. Hopefully he learns on the fly and develops chemistry with our young guys.

Re: Official Raptors 2011 NBA Draft Thread, Part 8
I don't think it's a huge deal that Kanter isn't working out competitively. It was more or less expected, and we've seen prospects projected to go high in other drafts do the same (from the bigs last year--Favors, Cousins, Monroe, and our own Ed Davis). I think it would have probably helped Kanter to do competitive workouts because I think it would only make him look better and would help mitigate some of the concerns about him not playing (perhaps even vaulting his draft stock up), but I guess his advisors believe that he has more to lose by doing that, which is understandable. I guess if that makes teams higher up pass on him, that gives us another option which is good for us (hopefully not someone we'd like more though).

Ideally I want Brandon Knight. Cavs will pick Irving, wolves should pick williams(although Kanter would be a better fit) The Jazz I could see go with brandon knight because they have favors and jefferson and Kanter wouldnt be a need for them. Cleveland will not go with another pg so most likely jonas or byiombo or donatas. We are in a interesting spot that is for sure.

Scaring off "already skeptical teams" doesn't sound like a slam. It sounds like the teams that are skeptical are the ones that maybe did no homework during the season, and so they likely weren't going to draft him anyway. Teams were open to watch him practice with Kentucky.
I wonder if the Raptors were one of the skeptical teams, because BC mentioned he was probably going to reach at #3 and Kanter had gained a lot of momentum as the #3 pick in the draft. Also DX is saying we're going to take one of the point guards, and they interviewed BC directly last night. I hope it's a smokescreen.

Zarko wrote:Kemba and Knight don't do anything Bayless can't. All 3 have poor court vision, are good at creating their own shot but don't have explosiveness to really put teams in trouble.
Unless were getting a sure fire dynamic point guard, we shouldn't burn a pick on one. That leaves Biyombo, Kanter, Jonas, Vesely. Jonas looks like he needs 3-5 years to develop and Kanter has a bunch of ? marks. Don't know much about Vesely or Biyombo so this draft is a mystery to me.
Kemba was a pass-first point guard coming into his 1st two year but 3rd year all veterans were gone leaving him to take the whole offensive load in the team comprised of all new freshmens. He was pretty much known for having a good court vision throughout his high school and 1st two years at college and Kemba's quickness and speed makes him quite explosive. So go read draftexpress or go watch his games live before making accusation on Kemba.

Rhettmatic wrote:^ That article was from April, though, and didn't say anything about competitive workouts. Givony was at the draft lottery yesterday interviewing GMs, Colangelo and Kahn included.
I'm intrigued by Kanter too but it seems like you're just hearing what you want to hear. If Givony is reporting that teams are frustrated by the fact that Kanter is avoiding competitive workouts, I believe him.
I don't think he would put his credibility on the line because of some vague personal vendetta against Enes Kanter.
I see it like this. It could be an attempt from his agent to control which teams drafts him, like refusing to workout for cleaveland for example or maybe he might injured and probably haven't disclosed it.

Yeah sorry I haven't been watching Kemba for 3-4 years. From what I saw this year I don't see any above average court vision.

BC did mention Kanter as one of the guys he liked who could be available at our pick, though. I know people are going to say that that too is a smokescreen, because everyone says that about everything right now. I don't know.
As someone who's intrigued by Kanter, I would like to see our management give him a fair shake. But he's such a risky pick, and it would be so much easier for BC to take one of the point guards that I suspect that's what ends up happening.

Don't mean to gripe but another thing about Givony's predictions is you can clearly tell he's a biyambo fanboy when he believe's that the worst case scenario would be T. Gibson (more like S.Saene) and at the same time he would put Kanter as Gray?? really??

I haven't really watched Knight enough, but I thought the issue with him was he was a score first score only PG. Bilups was a solid defensive and distributing pg.
I don't mind the Taj worst case for Biyombo
trade down and grab Biyombo and Leonard

Or maybe he simply thinks much highly of Biyombo than Kanter. Other than that you disagree, what's wrong with that?

Taj Gibson is a best case scenario in a weak draft like this. To say Taj Gibson is the worst case for Biyombo is extremely high praise. He'd be top-3 hands down if that were true.

A ceiling between Ty Lawson and Aaron Brooks is pretty good.
