Bizarre.....with interest.
I was interested of course, and followed him while he was in the minors.
He struck out too much and could not hit much of anything.

I didn't see the whole film but saw a good chunk of it. They said towards the latter half of his stint, Jordan greatly improved in terms of hitting and was actually half-decent...can anyone give any input on that?

I was like ......................

It varied....You had some hardcore Jordan stans believing he could be a good baseball player and you had realist scratching thier heads wondering how he thought he could jump straight to AA - AAA baseball..After spring training and a couple of games it was clear he had no business playing in the minors.
But I would agree that most people thought his Father's Death played a large role in him retiring and playing baseball. However I remember in 1991 after the Bull's beat the Lakers he said he thought about retiring.......He was very serious about it too........I always believed his first love was Baseball.....he just happened to be a natural basketball player.

Look...the only reason he got a spot on the Alabama Scorpions then the Barons was because the owner of the Bulls owned the AA - AAA teams.....in reality he had no business playing in the minors.
If he wasn't MICHAEL JORDAN and was just another guy with those skills he would have never gotten a spot.

Is this a joke? Those guys aren't all-stars but at least they made it to the nba. Jordan was never close to being major league material. He should never even have been in Double-A.NYK 455 wrote:About as good as Roger Mason or Keith Bogans is at basketball.
Who was the best outfielder in the majors in 1995? Albert Belle?
The comparison would go something like this: Albert Belle was to Baseball Michael Jordan as Basketball Michael Jordan was to the fat kid in Teen Wolf. Neither Baseball Michael Jordan nor Teen Wolf Fat Kid had the talent to play at the level he was at, but each was given a spot on his team just to make things more interesting.

Re: How good was Jordan as baseball player?
He obviously could play a little, but he just wasn't a professional talent. He did have 3 career homeruns but all his averages and regular stats were awful. He couldn't hit, wasn't a successful base stealer and was an average to below average fielder (although this area everyone can always improve given time and given his athletic talent, imo). Baseball is a sport not based on pure athletics as opposed to basketball or football. Therefore it's hard to tell what type of player he'd be had he devoted himself to baseball instead of basketball. Like someone else said, a devoted athlete can find himself not even sniffing AAA or the majors if their basic baseball skills don't develop.
He never made it out of Double A (AA). Not sure exactly why he started there, or if there was ever a plan for him to be promoted ever. I think people were just curious to see what he would do so they stuck him in in the middle of Chicago's system. If you're a soccer guy that would be the equivalent to the third tier of the English league. Except there is no relegations and promotions, each level has a Major League affiliate where young talent is stored and groomed.
1. Major Leagues AKA The Show (Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers etc.)
2. AAA
3. AA
4. A
5. Various Rookie/Amateur/Semi-Pro Leagues

Most everyone was shocked that he would do such a thing, but at the same time VERY interested to see what an athlete who was transcendent in one sport could do in another sport.

Re: How good was Jordan as baseball player?
The fact that Michael Jordan, at 31 years old, not playing competitive baseball for well over a decade could step onto an AA roster and hit for .556 OPS is actually quite amazing. No joke. That's not a good OPS at that level by any means but hitting is the most challenging thing to do in Major League sports.

hitting the ball is not hard, getting a hit is the most difficult part. most balls hit into play(out)

Best multi-sport player of all-time? I still think Bo Jackson, amazing things would have happened if he didn't get injured. Deion Sanders wasn't too bad either. I guess we can't forget about Jim Thorpe either, the dude did win Olympic gold, played in the MLB and the NFL.

It's shame Jackson blew up his hip.
His performances in both sports were amazing and historical
