If Cleveland picks Williams #1. Do you want them to pick Irving #2?
And keep him?
And keep him?

0 doubt, rubio in all likelihood would be signed by then and he is far from a sure thing...worst case we could trade him or rubio for something pretty dam valuable.

I'm really warming up to the idea of drafting Williams. I originally was thinking if Williams goes 1, draft Kanter. But then that'd leave Irving for our division rival. Instead, I think you have to trade the pick to someone who wants Irving. Thats not Milwaukee (Jennings), Philadelphia (Holiday), or Golden Styate (Curry), as much as you guys want it to be. That leaves one team with a veteran center possibly available, and point guard has been their weakest position in a decade.

I like this post Klomp, i have a similar view. Whos the team you have in mind for trading the pick to? and what do you see our lineup like providing rubio come over?

If you're talking about Bynum, it'd be a tough trade. We'd practically have to gut our team to match his salary.

There's no way that I'd pass on Irving. I don't know about you guys, but you NEVER trade a consensus number 1 pick. Trade Ricky to the Knicks or what ever place gives him the most value and go from there. Then keep Ridnour as a serviceable back-up.

Re: With the 2nd pick in 2011 NBA Draft, Minnesota selects
I'd be happy with any of Williams, Kanter, or Biyombo, but I am growing weary of Williams on this team.
With Kanter we could throw out a starting 5 where each position could score from anywhere on the floor. If we finally got a SG that could break people down on the dribble that could create a lot of opportunities with all that space.
With Biyombo we get a center that projects to solve on of our teams greatest needs. His work ethic and don't quit attitude (apparent) would be a refreshing change for a team that was too often caught sulking with an 'oh shucks' demeanor last year.
With Williams we get a guy that would form a nightmare pick n roll/pop combination with Rubio and we get the best player available. However, I worry that in taking him as the best player available, his value to our team would be mitigated by our front court crowding. He doesn't solve any of our problems. We might lose value in a necessary subsequent trade and by creating another transition year where we need to form new chemistry and teach another guy a new position he's never played before. Williams also projects to magnify our defense issues with what I perceive to be a lack of lateral quickness for him to be a full time 3 at the NBA level. Rubio-Johnson-Williams-Love.... I mean who stays in front of anyone? It's 2010 all over again.

imo there's absolutely NO way that kahn trades the pick with irving still on the board....the only way i could see it happening is if irving was drafted by us and allowed to play(as well as rubio) and then an in season trade was made after a good amount of time to see both guys.
CAN YOU IMAGINE...after all the pg **** kahn has taken, the **** he would get if he traded irving without even seeing him play a pro game and then rubio flamed out(which it's looking like a pretty good chance of) . there's absolutely no way imo that kahn would be that silly and put his job on the line like that...unless he was getting something AMAZING back for irving.

this is exactly why i want burks and why in that utah-minny trade thread would propose taking a top 8/9/10 pick back from utah instead of harris in order to select alec burks, we sucked so bad at getting to the line this year and if burks had a better jump shot, he'd probably be a top 5 or 6 pick...and i believe adding a jump shot is one of the easier things to do for a player.
and yeah i want no part of williams either, he's just not a fit or filling a need...i really hope we trade down a spot or 2 and pick up another asset.

As opposed to Iguodala, Bogut, or Ellis?

I really, really don't like Burks' jumpshot though. Even in the workout videos I saw his jump shot looked really ugly.
I might actually prefer Brooks and his crazy 7"1' wingspan over Burks. Brooks we could target at #20. I like Selby's upside too. His game is tailored made for the NBA and although undersized he has speed/strength to him.
Problem with all three of those guys is that intangibles seem to be the big question mark.

From Bleacher Report:
"Some people are getting their first look at Enes Kanter at the NBA combine, and those observers are coming away thoroughly impressed.
Although Kanter was ruled permanently ineligible by the NCAA in his bid to play for Kentucky, it's not going to have any sort of adverse impact on his draft stock.
Already an early favorite to go second overall to the T-Wolves, Kanter is almost certainly going to be the first European player off the board on draft day."
I've pretty much eliminated Irving from my mind, cuz 95% chance he's not there. I've really started to think we should take D-Will, as most scouts and analysis from combine is that he's easily the most NBA ready (remember when they said that about Brandon Roy, and we traded him away immediately).
BUT, we definitely need a center as well, and if we pass on D-Will for Kanter, I really won't be that upset. If we come away with either, I'll be happy.

Haha, ok. good to know! But regardless, I'm really hoping the pick is D-Will. If not though, a center with lots of potential wouldn't be a TERRIBLE thing.

I'm with you on Williams being the pick at #2. The consensus is that there is a big dropoff in talent after Irving and Williams comes off the board. We have a lot of tradeable assets, so it makes the most sense to draft the best player available and then sort it out later.

Enes Kanter...do not want. Why'd we trade Al Jeff if we draft him?
Take D Williams. Trade for Biyombo. Trade #20 and Webster for a solid vet.

Well Al Jefferson made $13M and couldn't pass or stretch the floor. I agree that defensively it raises some old concerns against more athletic front courts. We have Randolph, Tolliver, and Darko to mix in however.

If we can achieve that bottom line, I will hit the floor hands together, with happy tears. Not really though. But really.
