Draft Kyrie Irving AND Derrick Williams

Post#1 » by koogiking » Wed May 18, 2011 6:29 pm

#1 pick Cavs - Kyrie Irving(gotta snatch him up before Kahn dratfs another point guard)

#2 pick Timberwolves - Bismack Biyombo or Enes Kanter (Minny already has B-Easy Theres no need for D-Will. Kahn said that he would draft Bismack Biyombo over Kyrie so there is still hope! He could also try Enes Kanter at Center too )

#3 pic Utah Jazz - Jimmer Freddete, Brandon Knight or Enes Kanter (Can anybody see Utah not pick Jimmer? They also like Brandon Knight. Who knows it's possible. They already have Favors at power forwrd so they don't need D-Will)

#4 pick Cavs D-Will baby

Maybe the Kahn will choose a dumbass pick again and maybe Utah will draft another bust. It's possible.

It's laughable that you think the Jazz seriously draft Jimmer 3rd. But keep on dreaming, I guess.

I think Minny will pass on D-will and draft Kanter, but I HIGHLY doubt that he gets passed the Jazz. He's gonna play SF for them

I think you guys should try to trade up...Trade your number 4 and someone else to sweeten the deal for Minnys number 2 ..Then you can draft the top 2 prospects..And your future wont be looking too badd..Either way though you guys are headed in the right direction ,congrats

I have been trying to imagine a scenario where they would be willing to do that, but our best assets are Anderson Varejao, Ramon Sessions and JJ Hickson...I don't see who we could package that would be enticing enough for them to wanna do that

Got Kyrie Irving, got to go for a PF or C with No. 4. Kanter seems to be perfect. Jazz are likely going PG at No. 3 -- either Brandon Knight or Kemba Walker.

yeah but there are already talks about how since Knight and Kemba will both be there at 5, that Minny and Toronto will trade their picks since they likely will want to grab Kanter

I'd kind of prefer to go big instead of Williams.

No way can Derrick Williams fall at 4 fourth he might be a third pick. But if you really want this guy then go after D-Will and pick up Brandon Knight. But I know how hard it is to pass up a guy like Kyrie Irving. It would be beast to get both of them, thats only if D-Will falls in fourth.

I think the Jazz's board looks like this..

1. Irving
2. Williams
3a. Knight
3b. Kanter

Knight IF they go by position. Kanter if they go BPA, or atleast that's how he's being advertised. I think whether the Wolves trade the pick or keep it, that Kanter and Williams will go 2 and 3 (in which ever order). Williams is making himself look very cocky right now, I'm not sure if it's going to help him stock with Kanter impressing GMs at the combine and being a C/PF too. If Minnesota keeps their pick, it's Kanter for sure.

Utah has too many centers: Favors, Jefferson, and Okur. Add to this Millsap, and it's a clogged up front court. Unless Utah plans to trade Jefferson, which I don't see it happening. Jefferson was playing great for us in the second half of the season averaging 21/11 and 2bpg after the all-star break. Millsap is a 20PER guy, whether he comes off the bench or starts, he is making MLE money. Jazz will play him alot at SF, so this guy is not going anywhere. Okur will probably get limited minutes but can play center and PF. Last but not least, Favors, the youngest player in the NBA, and he impressed the Jazz with his stellar defense in April and started to showcase his offense too.

That's not it though, the Jazz also have Tomic, a very good big playing in Europe who plans to play for the Jazz in the near future.

AK is going to be a FA this offseason, so it's a perfect opportunity to get a new starting SF. Williams fits the bill perfectly. Before you say, but what about Hayward, he can play SG just as well, and at 6'8", I personally prefer Hayward giving opposing SGs headaches, as he did to Kobe.

Utah should go by position, not BPA.

/totally objective view from a Cavs fan who wants Kanter

edit:

and Minnesota should go by BPA, not position. Why pick Kanter when you have DARKO!

I really do not think we can afford to pass on Irving. The thought of drafting Williams first, and Knight at #4 is intriguing, but it could haunt us ala drafting Marvin Williams over DWill and CP3. If Williams and Kanter are not there at #4, I almost think we should trade down for someone like Burks and a 2012 pick.
Well at least we're not Detroit!

I might be more inclined to trade down with CHA for #9 and #19 and maybe #39.

All the teams in the 8-12 range except maybe Utah will be in the lottery again next year. I really, really doubt they'd trade a non-lottery protected pick just to move up ~5 spots in this draft when next draft is looking so good.

Utah will not let Williams slip past them at 3. Sorry to break your hearts but it is not happening. Also the Jazz drafted Kosta Koufos because he went from a lottery pick all the way down to 19. Its not like they traded up to get the kid. He was BPA at the time.

I think you guys should draft Williams first and Kanter at 4. Irving apparently has over 10% body fat and I don't see him being a top athlete in the NBA like all the other elite point guards. Next year's draft is filled with great guards and IMO Kyrie just is not the next CP3, DWill, DRose or John Wall. If you pick Williams and Kanter your frontcourt will be stacked and you still have decent guards.

Davis/Sessions
Gee/Gibson
Williams/Eyenga
Hickson/Jamison
Kanter/Varejao

Williams is a great all around player (more athletic and more D than Beasley so I wouldn't be afraid of the Irving/Williams vs Rose/Beasley thing). Kanter is built like a tank at 6'11" 259 with 5.9% body fat. Baron Davis is one of the best in the game at throwing alley-oops, and with Gee, Williams, Hickson and Kanter he will be throwing a lot of those. Sessions is a very good backup PG imo, because he may not have a very good jump shot but he does control the tempo and gets to the basket. Gee is athletic with a lot of upside and has potential to be a good all around scorer. Gibson brings shooting off the bench. The PF/C rotation speaks for itself lol.

Jamison will be a big expiring at the end of next year and could be used to bring in more talent at either guard position. You guys will have a lot of options but I think getting Williams and Kanter will give you a very strong front court for years to come. The young talent you have in the back court could develop very well with the strong foundation. But either way, next year has much more talented guards coming out. You could draft a guy like Brad Beal or Austin Rivers next year.

I'm not sure why you point out Irving's body fat but neglect to point out that 1) he's obviously not in the best shape after missing a ton of time, and 2) Derrick Williams has an even higher body fat %.

I don't really see all the great guards in next years draft either. Welll, not PGs at least. 2012 is projected to be very SG-SF-PF heavy. Both Beal and Rivers are going to be wings in the NBA, not PGs.

I'm just not sold on Williams over Irving. Character and personality are very important to a successful rebuild IMO and Williams scares me with his refusal to even attempt playing at the 4 most of the time and his comment about "even I amaze myself sometimes" brings back that eerie feeling of LBJ's arrogance.

You guys should take Williams at #1 and either Kemba Walker or Brandon Knight at #4.

Williams is a STUD. 6'9! Unstoppable near the rim. You don't really pass that up. You need post help, and he's gonna be great.

The media is all over Irving's nuts, but if you wanna start putting the pieces back together (and sell more jerseys, and have a more fun team) I'd recommend the above.
