Celts Have Guarantee to Reggie Jackson?

Post#1 » by Celts17Pride » Sun May 22, 2011 1:08 am

Tommy Dee: ESPN analysts suspecting Reggie Jackson has a guarantee? sweet. about 6 hours ago

Our spies have informed us that Celts exec Danny Ainge is so impressed with BC point guard Reggie Jackson that he’s already guaranteed the Celts will take him with the 25th pick in this year’s draft. Ainge personally was on hand for a number of Jackson’s game, and is a tremendous fan. The problem for the C’s is that Jackson’s stock is soaring and the thoughts from scouts everywhere is that he will be long gone by then meaning that Boston will have to trade up to select him.

“Danny’s already guaranteed him,” a source close to Jackson’s camp told TKB. “He saw a ton of games at BC this year.”

Really, another point guard?

I do believe Danny would make a promise. But, We shall see. I remember we promised Orien Greene in second round before. Then Amir Johnson fell to us and even though we wanted him we still took Greene due to promise.

He also withdrew form the draft combine because of "injury".

I'll let you decide if it is a conspiracy.

Ainge has fallen in love with long PG sized combo guards. I actually think Avery Bradley is a good prospect moving forward. He could add some athleticism to the team and has enough length to be able to play SG on certain matchups.

Priority should be a legit 6'5"-6'6" SG or a PF/C prospect. Dannys drafting has been bad recently. I realize we have been good so we havent had great picks. But we havent had a draft pick contribute anything since Glen Davis and I hate Glen Davis.

We need to draft a high energy guy that is a killer. Whoever that may be, I don't know. Someone that's just too good to keep off the floor regardless of position.

I don't know if we really need another athletic combo guard who can't shoot but Danny seems to see something special in him. If Danny thinks he's the best talent we can get with our pick, then I'm inclined to believe him.

Well if it's true, hopefully nbadraft.net is wrong about having him pegged as a tweener who doesn't have the vision/etc to run the point nicely. DraftExpress has better things to say to that extent.

He did shoot about 40% from 3 during conference play last season, not overly impressive considering it was only one season, but it does seem that he was the most efficient scorer on his team, which happened to be the most efficient team in its conference during conference play, and led it's conference in three point shooting. His team was statistically a very poor defensive team, but he at least led them in steals per game. BC turned the ball over less than almost any other team in it's conference, also a good sign. Tough to make so much from that though PG is a tough position to judge.

This draft is beyond horrifying. The Top 5 wouldn't even go Top 10 in a normal draft.

If they get a viable future bench guy at 25, call it a huge success.

You're misinformed. He's a damn good shooter with a beautiful stroke.

I love this guy, but i doubt he'd be on the board at 25 especially after workouts. I'm surprised he's not at least in the top 15, but at the same time, pleased , that he' s being slept on.

He's a nice player, but he better leave that garbage headband in college.

Isn't it a little early for promises? Anyone know when they're usually made?

I wouldn't be surprsised if Danny made a promise to Reggie. A legit 6-3 combo guard, very athletic, good ball handling/vision of the court. Has 7 feet wingspan. O.o

Problem is he ain't a shooter, so he's somewhat the taller version of Rondo. Man, I want a big badly. ;[

Edit: Here's to hoping some1 will take him before we do(absolutely possible). :D
Good assessment:

This can't be true or has to be a smokescreen. If true, you really have to question if Danny knows that the hell he is doing anymore. You can't live off of 2007 forever. This would be a bad move, not that Jackson is bad, it just doesn't fill the most pressing need the team has. Plus, what, have we given up on Bradley already?

If he is looking for a PG is it safe to say one or two of Avery Bradley, Delonte West, or Arroyo won't be here next season? That is the only reason I see him going after another one...

I just cant see this being true. We have Rondo who plays 38 minutes per game, Avery is better then Jackson, and all signs point to us wanting to retain Delonte, so where would this kid fit? With our desperate need to get athletic in the FRONT COURT, this "guarantee" just doesnt make sense to me. I mean if Danny truly thinks Avery would be a top 5 pick this year (and i fully believe that as well), then why would he draft a guy who might be available at 25 who plays the same positions as Avery? Also, isnt it extremely early to be making guarantees to players? I mean where not even at the NBA Finals yet. The source doesnt seem reliable and the rumor just doesnt make sense.

Having said all that though, i do like this kids game. Hes athletic, decent ball handler, brings high energy, and at 6-3 (7 foot wingspan) and 208lbs his body his NBA ready to play the 1 and the 2 on both ends of the floor. The kid definitely has talent and some upside, but like i said i just dont see how he would fit on this team. If we truly are keeping the core intact, this kid makes little to no sense. If we move up to draft another combo guard instead of drafting athletic bigs who can rebound like Faried and/or Bismack, im really going to start to questions Dannys thought process from these past few drafts.

From NBA Draftnet who currently has Jackson going at #39 to Charlotte:
Biggest Riser

Reggie Jackson, 6'3 G, Leaving Boston College for NBA

Jackson's value is picking up steam, and it wouldn't be surprising to see mid first round teams take interest. Combining explosiveness and athleticism with a 7 foot wingspan, Jackson's physical tools are suited for NBA play. Though not the purest of point guards, he possesses ideal size as a primary ball handler and is capable of making plays. With so few highly touted guards after Kyrie Irving and Brandon Knight, Jackson could be a sneaky play for a team not thrilled with the low-upside available forwards.

Just a couple of thoughts:
1.) It is really hard to made a promise at #25. If he is indeed a fast riser he probably won't make it to #25.
2.) The other thought, if Jackson was really available is that Bradley is a valuable trade asset. I'm not suggesting that the Celtics have to move Bradley, but think of it this way: what if the Cavs like Derrick Williams more than Kyrie Irving? What if Ainge saying Avery Bradley would be a top 5 pick is more than hype? Maybe the Celts and Cavs hook up in a trade at #4 (Enes Kanter?) or even possibly go after JJ Hickson if the Cavs like someone else at #4. Lots of ways to looking at this.
Brad Stevens on fans who want the Celtics to tank: "I don’t think they’ll like me all that much then."
