Kanter moving up to "sure thing" status

Post#1 » by finnegan » Sun May 22, 2011 6:17 am

Enes Kanter did everything right during the first few days of the combine.

Many players in his position would have sat out of the workouts after missing a full year of competitive play, but not Kanter. Instead, he played and he played well.

The interviews and measurements both went swimmingly and Kanter may actually be moving up into that same "sure thing" status that Derrick Williams and Kyrie Irving are both enjoying.

That is good news. At the #3 spot, I think we can be confident we will get a good player whoever that is.

If Williams is gone and we are confident Kanter is the BPA, meaning he would be better than drafting Knight, then I am fine with it. Personally, I still want Knight, but hey thats me.

If Williams slips to us, now that would be a dream.

+1. I just want to know that if we are getting a player with every chance to great like Irving and Williams. We still don't know for sure how good Favors will be, and hey if Kanter is a better fit than Jefferson, well Jefferson should be pretty easy to move. We're years from being a champion, and if an upgrade in the frontcourt will help us, it's worth it over going for someone is might not really develop behind Harris, especially if they aren't much different than Harris offensively.

I think most of us here considered him to be in that top tier of guys but it's good to see that everyone else is starting to think that way too since that means we are guaranteed a shot at him or Williams.

Utah will literally draft Irving, Kanter, or Williams. Whichever one slips to us.

And I'm so excited! I can only hope Minnesota falls in love with Kanter. Derrick is my numero uno.

Early onset knee arthritis
Barley playing meaningful basketball in three years
Having the same playstyle and hype as BJ Mullens

THis is a crazy thing to say. The only thing that has a little meaning is "bj mullens" was hyped, because I don't remember him getting hyped up that much, he was big and clumsy, he's still big and clumsy.

Not doubting you Jazzfan12, but do you have a link where we can read about Kanter's knee arthritis?

Out of high school, BJ Mullens was the unanimous preseason #1 pick in a draft class that had Blake Griffin.

That's a good point, I mistaken you.

Now that I remember better, ur right, I think they are different kinds of athletes but I could be wrong about that too.

Completely different types of players. Mullens was loved becaused he was an elite athlete for his size, but lacked any real NBA skill. Kanter is the exact opposite.

BJ can't shoot. Kanter is a really solid shooter.
BJ has no court vision. Kanter does.
BJ didn't get tons of minutes at Ohio. Kanter got tons of minutes in a top european player.
BJ doesn't have great hands, and no one thought he was a "scorer" like Kanter.
This comparison is terrible.

Not saying he's a sure thing, the knee thing is slightly worrisome, but he's no BJ mullins. He deserves to be a top 3 pick. He also played plenty of basketball before he went to Kentucky, not sure where the "three years" thing come from. He definitely has played a lot from 16-18.

It was tendinitis, not arthritis BTW (something definitively more treatable). I would assume the Jazz would look into this before they decide to take him (if they do).

Tendinitis doesn't concern me in the least.

Tendinitis is like a cold for the body, it comes and goes but it isn't crippling by any stretch.

Didn't you originally say he hasn't played for over a year? Then you said two years. Now its three years? And now you offer terribly skewed analysis of his ability after orignially conceding that he had a highly developed skill set. Additionally, I have read no expert account of him which expresses any serious concern about his knees.

I really have no idea why you have such a negative reaction to Kanter, but obviously you do not have the capacity to predict his prospects as an NBA player with any level of objectivity. Why not say you just don't like the f***er instead of trying to justify your position? Because, frankly, you've lost all credibility trying to do so.

WT: Calipari would pick Kanter way ahead of Knight. I think his opinion of the two is rather more well informed than any of ours.

Well, he's also extremely biased.

Doesn't mean his wrong, but, it's like a grandmother telling you how beautiful her granddaughter is. You take it with a whole lotta salt.

Why is that Wes? Both Knight and Kanter were his players.

Maybe this additional attention Kanter is getting will mean that Irving and Kanter will go top 2 and then we get Williams :D
