As a Deron Williams fan...

Post#1 » by rykedog » Sat May 21, 2011 6:17 pm

I would really love to see D. Will in Clippers. It's practically going to be another 1996-1997 Utah Jazz senario. Feed the ball to Griffin and have a 3 pt shooter like Gordon outside the perimeter.

Honestly, imagine a roster like this:

Deron William
Blake Griffin
Eric Gordon
D. Jordan
A player that has good inside presence and can do some D.

You can see that starting line-up as contender right? Honestly, people can't see that Clippers can become true winners with few adjustments in the management. With that being said Clippers can be a force to reckon on (top FAs fail to see this for some reason).

I would absolutely love that scenario. I think at this point, the Clips just need to be patient with the possible exception of shedding Mo Williams/Gomes contracts to create more 2012 cap space. I could be wrong but if NJN doesn't end up with Dwight, which is very possible, I can see DWill bolting and we would become a very likely destination.

My ideal scenario would be to sign DWill and draft Michael Gilchrist with the Minny pick.

D Will
Gordon
Gilchrist
Griffin
Jordan

with Bledsoe and Aminu in the mix as well.

Aminu in the starting line up would also be good. Clippers will most likely be in Top 5 of D-William's mind because honestly, who wouldn't want to play with Griffin? Plus the team is hella young and once we know it, they can become a dynasty. I'm a D-Will fan but I wouldn't mind rooting for Clippers as they used to be a San Diego team + they're fun to watch. Now if Sterling changes his style of management...

I would love that scenario for us.

I think that Dwight is going to be the barometer of next summer as LeBron was last summer. If he stays (like he is claiming he wants to), then both Williams and Paul will be looking elsewhere if they decide to leave their respective teams. They're not going to be teaming up. New York may be an option for one of them. Deron has put pressure on the Nets to add significant players and I'm sure they will try. It has to be a situation where he has legitimate chance to compete, if not, then he'll definitely look elsewhere and not feel bad about it.

With that being said, Nets do have the roster to become a .500 team and maybe build up an even better franchise in another 3 years.

In my case, if Brook Lopez plays like a monstrous center (I mean this guy is scared to get rebounds... seriously) and average 20 and 10, then there's a huge chance that D. Will will decide to stay with the Nets. They already got a bunch of role players.

In the other hand, if D.Will decides that he wants to play with another star that's not Lopez then Clippers would be the right destination imo.

Lopez came into the season after battling Mono over the summer. He only rebounded in double-figures 10 times (played all 82). That is disgustingly bad and I can't stand to see bigs not be able to rebound. He's capable of better and has done better earlier in his career. He's going to have to step up in area regardless. Humphries is a free-agent this summer and they supposedly intend to re-sign him. Other than that, they're looking pretty good financially for the next 2 seasons. They'll have the cap flexibility to sign or trade for some talent.

I could be completely wrong, but I think that it's going to take Howard to keep Deron there. The Nets and D-Will both want Howard, and they would probably include Lopez in a trade package for Howard if he agreed to extend. Deron was frustrated in Utah and they were pretty much guaranteed a playoff appearance every season and had a decent team for the most part. Now, he's in the east and there are several teams that are better than the Nets. He's not going to want to stick around in an even worse situation than before. In the event that Lopez does turn it up a notch, Williams is going to want another player that he can trust to help carry the team more often than not. These guys don't want to just be OK, they want to compete for rings.

I really expect Deron Williams to be traded from the Nets by the deadline if they can't get him to sign the extension. With Westbrook getting torn apart by the media then I could easily see a Westbrook + Filler for Deron Williams happening.

That's a very interesting thought. I could totally see Deron signing off on that with him being able to team up with Durant. Plus, he'd be closer to home if that makes a difference.

It'll be interesting to see how the CBA agreement works out. He may make more money by staying with NJ.
I'd love to see him on the Clips though.
