Calinks wrote:Big day today. A forum poster on another site gave me a coupon which would knock $100 off a new PS3. I have been waiting to get one for a while, I was hoping for a $50 price drop after E3. Well $100 is much better than I expected so I jumped on it. LA Noire also came arrived at my door. So I got a lot of games to tackle.

Happy all this went down today becasue now when the lottery lets me down I'll have something to take my mind off of it right away.
PS3 has a very, very strong library now that it's been out a few years. Late adopting is where it's at.

Yep. I have just been biding my time. It took a long while before more than two PS3 games excited me but now is the time to reap the benefits.

Over the next 9 months or so here are the game I am going to try and acquire.

Metal Gear Solid 4 (Bought that today)
Heavy Rain
Uncharted 2
God of War 3
Yakuza 3 and 4
Infamous one and two

Those are my targets and I'm sure I will run into others here and there.

Have you played Red Dead Redemption? I would pick that up before LA Noire. You can probably get it for a lot less used than LA Noire new and it' sounds like it's right up your alley.

LA Noire looks to have really, really great reviews but I would wait a while to play. A lot of these Rockstar games have a ton of hype coming in and I think it's better to play them after the fact. I've heard it is very linear and is sort of a mix between Phoenix Wright and GTA. Probably better to rent it than buy it since it is so story driven.

Yeah I own Red Dead Redemption. I never had much time to play much of the story mode but I did play it online quite a bit, that was fun for awhile.

Does anyone know if LA Noire has any playable online modes?

there is no multiplayer

@calinks

I suggest you read up on Demon's Souls, on top of all of those you listed. I used to work at Gamestop and all of my coworkers who had PS3s raved about that game.

I loved RDR. I 100% it and played a fair bit online. Really looking forward to L.A. Noire.

You can get the first infamous free on playstation. I quickly skimmed ebay and found an auction for uncharted 2 and GOW3, so you might be able to save a few bucks by getting those bundled.

Man, thanks alot. I might have to bite on those ebay games. I don't think I'll be eligible for Infamous because I am a new PSN member. I' guessing only people who were signed up before and suffered get the free stuff.

Demon Souls, I'm thinking of getting it. Dark Souls seems to be coming up soon though so I'm not sure.

Well fellas. I have played about 90 minutes of LA Noire. For those of you expecting it to be like GTA or Red Dead, be warned, it's not. So far the game feels a lot more linear. You seem to go from case to case. During cases you can free roam but you can't do anything crazy. You can't punch anybody or pull out your gun. If you do crash your car too much or something you will lose a lot of points or credibility.

I really like the idea of integrating people and solving cases. The game has a bunch of things built in to kind of hold your hand through the investigations and I am thinking I am going to turn that off. The game will probably me more enjoyable when I really am cracking or failing these cases.

well, I am really thinking about getting Demon Souls. The game seems really in depth though and I am not sure I want to get into a game like that at this time. I got so many games on my plate right but I need some games for my PS3. I only got one. Hmmmm... The plan is to hurry up and beat Yakuza 2 so I can move on to 3. I'm not buying anymore games for a while becasue now I actually have more than I can handle. I'll just try to chip away at these over the next 3 or 4 months.

Oh, and for those who are looking to get LA Noire. Once again I will say, do not expect GTA or Red Dead. This game is a different animal. Same engine, similar controls but you can't go around do any of the stuff you can do in those games. No shooting innocent people, no beating people up. Its a very linear experience. This is one of my favorite games this gen already. I love investigating and it's hard.

I bought L.A. Noire the other day and it is really fun. I seem to either nail a suspect and get every question right or completely bomb and piss them off lol. The street crimes are pretty easy, but I like the shootouts.

I'm not sure if you only like the types of games that you listed, but if you haven't played them, I'd also recommend:

Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction
Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time
The Resistance games if you like shooters
Prince of Persia (not the one based on the stupid movie with Donnie Darko)

Nice. I got the ce edition of Demons Souls and the artbook and guide were worth the extra money. I was planning on getting the Japanese Dark Souls since the online play is A LOT more classy on the nonamerican or europe version servers. Now i'll probably have to get both.

What's the deal with monster hunter? What is it like? People in Japan go crazy over it.

It's alright. It's free-roaming, like GTA, and you hunt monster (hence, the name) with swords and guns and other crazy stuff. The monsters are varied, there's dinosaurs, dragons, mammals, everything, and when you kill them you can skin them to make armour that you can then sell.

There's no real story though, at least in the two I got. It also gets really tough to get through it on your own, as you need more than one person to take on the 90 foot bosses.

So, yeah, it's alright, but its definitely more of a "Japanese" game and not something a lot of western people would like.

Hmmm see I thought it was the game I played on Ps2 once where you put CD's into your console and they turned into unique monsters you could fight with lol.
