Rank your draft day combos
I hope it's cool I started a new thread for this, basically I'm pretty bored at work. I think it's a legitimate discussion however, how much will the 12th pick be affected by the 3rd pick? Or will they have no correlation to each other? For example, in my opinion, if we take Knight at 3, we really can't take Jimmer at 12. Or if we take Williams at 3, we'd probably pass on another wing like Singleton.
I thought it'd be interesting to discuss if we take _______ at 3, I want to take _________ at 12.
1. If we take Derrick Williams, I want to take Jimmer at 12. I think this is the best case for the Jazz. Not to open the whole Jimmer discussion, but I think this combo would create the more buzz and generate more ticket sales than any other combo. Let's face it, we are a small market. And I also think Jimmer could help us.
2. If we take Brandon Knight, I want to take Donatas Monejunas at 12. If we go PG early, I wouldn't mind swinging for the fences on a Euro Big.
3. if we take Kanter, I want to take Jimmer at 12. Same reasons as above.

Re: Rank your draft day combo
If we take Kanter I want Kawhi Leanord if available or Klay Thompson or Reggie! Reggie! in that order.
If we take Williams I want the same.
If we take Knight or Walker I want the same except instead of Reggie I would like whomever dropped, likely one of the Lithuanians will drop if Thompson and Leonard rise.

I don't understand the ticket sale argument, when have the Jazz had trouble selling tickets, we aren't the Hawks. The Jazz are the only real show in town.

Exactly. The Mormons who love Jimmer aren't going anywhere. It's the people sick of white bread stereotypes who will be turned off by the pick. I don't think either reason is justification for not taking the best player though.

I think you'd be surprised to know how many lower bowl tickets are given away to all the games that aren't against LA, Miami, etc. A Wednesday game vs. Minnesota in the middle of January isn't exactly selling out.
I'm pretty sure that right now the Jazz are desperate to sell lower bowl season tickets for next year.
Also, I really like Thompson too, but I hope the Jazz don't take him because I think Hayward is best at the 2.

The Jazz lost 3 million in a bad year while paying lux tax. The Wolves lost 20 million while recieving the Lux tax payout. The Jazz are fine and a bench player won't sell many more 15 dollar tickets.

I know people in the Jazz sales department, and believe me when I say they want Jimmer...they feel it will generate big sales. Not nosebleed single games, season tix in the lower bowl.
OK Jimmer and ticket sales aside, let's try to bring this back to talking about draft combo's. I like your Kanter and Kawhi Leonard combo. (doubt Kawhi will be there at 12 tho)

Re: Rank your draft day combos
This type of debate is exactly why the team shouldn't draft Jimmer. Quick sales that could turn ugly if he doesn't pan out. The backlash from most of the Jimmer fans will be the Jazz didn't give him a chance or used incorrectly and then want to come down on management. No one wants that rollercoaster.
1. Williams / Burks or Donatas

I personally would love to see the Jazz take Jimmer with the #12 pick. Not only will create some hype and excitement on a down year, I think he can be a productive bench player and help spread the floor while knocking down some big 3's. Imagine the boos that will ring out at the draft day party at ESA if Jimmer is available and the Jazz don't take him.
That being said, I would love to have a young talented Brandon Knight on the roster that could slowly develop for a few years under Harris. If the Jazz take him at #3, grab a wing scorer at #12 or possibly trade the pick,

God, the best thing for the Jazz might be if Jimmer is gone before they pick, so they don't have to deal with the drama of taking him or not.
Another combo I like that might be a pipedream is Knight/Biyombo.

You don't trade down from #3 to #6 in a "weak" draft. You draft the best available at #3 and possibly move the other pick if you make a trade.

Nice thread.
If Knight at 3, I like Donatas
If Kanter or Williams, Jimmer at 12
If Irving at 3, Donatas at 12
Donatas looks like he will be an offensive weapon in the high post. He can shoot and he shows surprisingly good passing skills. He can shoot either hand within 7-8 feet.

Much rather pick 3 and 12 than 6 and 7.
What about Knight/Singleton?
At 12 if you can get a guy with an elite NBA skill it's hard to pass up. Singleton should be a great defender, and able to guard the 2, 3, or 4.

If the Jazz are going to go with a point guard, they can get one at six. I think Walker is a superior prospect to Knight.

Re: Rank your draft day combos
Well, Ante Tomic doesn't want to play for the Jazz.
http://www.sportando.net/eng/europe/spa ... nsion.html
This is why I don't like the BS strategy of drafting Euro league players and then leaving them there for two years. If they become stars in the Euro Leagues and get good offers, why come to the NBA and start over?
I hope the Jazz don't leave Kanter on the board in order to take Knight. Knight's potential is Devin Harris, and the Jazz already have him.
Draft Express has Donatas Motiejunas at the 12th spot now. The last thing the Jazz need is another Euro center who won't play defense and doesn't understand the game. He'll turn into "potential" and a project. The Jazz need to get better now, not 3 years from now.
In my opinion the Jazz need to take big man in the 3rd position and then take Burks at 12, if he's available, and if not Marshon Brooks or Charles Jenkins later in the draft. They can trade down from 12 to 20th, pick up an experienced roster player and still get Brooks or Jenkins. In the end they'll get a shooting guard with defensive ability (Brooks) who can also play the point.
Knight has potential, but he's not Wall, Paul or D-Will. Like I said, to me he looks like a younger Devin Harris that has to improve a lot of his game just to reach that level. The Jazz need a strong center who can play now without being a project.Projects are fine when a team is winning 50 plus games a year.
June is along way off and there could be a couple of arrests, a few drug problems, injuries or psych issues come up. Who knows. Luther Wright anyone?

1- Kanter/Singleton
2- Knight/Singleton
We all know that championships are won by defense. So, why wouldn't we want a guy like Singleton, who can play defense from 1-4 and even give you a limited amount of offense? I prefer Kanter only on the potential he gives us on the offenseive and defensive end. I like Al, but he is not the answer for us ever getting to the championship. He is not even a second or third option on a championship team.
Quoting from The Office, "If loving Singleton is gay, then I'm the biggest queer on earth".
