John Farrell Approval Rating (May)

Post#1 » by LittleOzzy » Mon May 23, 2011 11:30 pm

March 2011 Approval Rating = 8.8 Link
April 2011 Approval Rating = 5.48 Link
May 2011 Approval Rating = ????

Discuss how things have changed since April. I'll try my best to post a new thread once a month on the 20th or so.

While the lineups are odd a lot, we arent exactly blessed with a good bench (or regulars right now for that matter). I give him a 5.

You guys are way off base.

If you look at the crap players that he has to bat, he's doing a really good job.

He does a great job managing pitching changes which is one of the major decisions a coach has to make.

How would you explain the decisions on lineups? Batting Yunel behind Bautista is just entirely absurd. As is batting Arencibia far down the order and having guys like Hill and Encarnacion bat ahead of him who have hit so far a combined 0 HR's.

And he's been blessed to have a great bullpen, but he's made questionable decisions there as well. Anyone with a passing knowledge of splits would have known not to throw Dotel out against lefties, but Farrell did it not once, but at least twice where it burned us.

He's just failing at some very simple things which have me worried. Managers don't impact that many games, but there are going to be 10-15 that they can swing with their decisions, and Farrell is swinging them to the losing side currently.

8. We are 1.5 games out of first place in the hardest division in baseball. We need more love less hate.

Still 2. He didn't walk Ichiro with 2 outs as the game-winning run or use Dotel as much against lefties in high-leverage situations. He did piss off one of the team's best pitchers by inexplicably pulling him from the game in the 4th inning (which led to a loss) and continually makes poor lineup decisions. The aggressive baserunning in awful situations, though, stands out more than anything.

He hasn't improved at all and I really don't expect him to. These are basic concepts that he's apparently not getting.
