you said in your previous post that buying 3 picks was not realistic...I was just providing an example showing it can be done

Nah I just think you didnt realize it was 3 2nd rounders. LoL. We had 3 2nd rounders last year. We could buy a few more this year if we wanted. Its easy to buy 2nd rounders. Not the same thing. You're acting like we're the only team who might want to get some more cheap young talent. You're acting like teams just cant wait to get rid of their picks. Even in this weak draft you have to be a cheap ass team not to want to pay a rookie salary.

Give me an example of a team buying more than one 1st round pick. It may have been done, but amazingly rare. Just keep the expectations in check is all my man.

Expecting Donnie to get 4 more picks is nutso.

how? get one late 1nd, and then get a couple 2nds...its not that hard

NOH sold the 27th pick to PORT a couple years (port traded that pick too), that player there was darrell arthur...a pretty good backup PF

like i said, moves can be made, but donnie wont make em due to 2012 and his risk averse style

Yeah, if he had guts he wouldn't be limiting himself to Carmelo Anthony-type trades. He'd be going out there and bringing in the bonus 2nd-round draft picks. Like you said, there are moves to be made if he wasn't so risk-averse.

Again 2nd rounders are different. You made it seem like 1st rounders. Dont front. Teams dont look at 2nds as assets unless you're thinking the Fields/Blair/Arenas finds are the norm. They can just buy the 2nds themselves if they want em. Most of the guys we're talking about drafting at #17 would have been 2nd rounders before all of the top prospects pulled out. Fact. So now many of those who are actually in the 2nd round now would have probably went undrafted before. Feel me? They arent very good.

Not to mention Pharm, 3 million just to buy a pick is a lot to spend on an unknown rookie, not including his salary. Even for Dolan. At most we'll get one. Nothing more.

Any opinions on what it would cost to move up in the draft to get Thompson or Fredette or something? I guess there's probably no way to do it without giving up Douglas or Fields along with our pick, which really is not worth it, since regardless of what you think of them they are important parts of our depth. Any chance #17 + Walker + Cash would let us move up into the late lottery?

Incorrect - He bought that pick after we drafted Jordan Hill because Evans/Rubio/Flynn/Curry had already been drafted before the #8 pick, with a view to one of the remaining crop of PGs sliding through.

However, when picks #17 to #21 were five straight PGs, it kind of screwed us - Jrue Holiday, Ty Lawson, Jeff Teague, Eric Maynor and Darren Collison all came off the board. Beaubois also went to the Mavs a few picks later. This was AFTER Donnie Walsh had already bought the pick from the Lakers though, and so he drafted by far the best PG prospect available in Toney Douglas.

Pharm you say this every year. I was bored and peeping around drafttime 08 and 09 and you were in the threads saying we should buy another 3 picks then too . Its just not realistic man. We might be able to buy 1, but thats it. Youre talking about buying 4-5. Teams dont just give away young talent on rookie contracts so easily.

Of course he knows that - He intentionally talks up something totally unrealistic, so that when it doesn't happen, he can whinge and moan about it not happening.

This is Pharmcat's MO every year:

1. Suggest something ridiculous.
2. When ridiculous thing doesn't happen, act as though the sky is falling.
3. When sky doesn't fall, get overly hopeful.
4. When hopes aren't met, whinge and moan all season until the next draft.
5. Suggest something ridiculous.

Shooter, good length, pretty good athlete, nice handle and vision...he would space the floor for Melo/Amar'e.

ESPN3 lol...best way to catch up on prospects - that's what I use. Then of course there's the traditional youtube highlights and that stuff, but it's not good. THEN there's the draft combine...

Morris was on national TV against Duke...missed the potential game winning runner, remember?

Eat your words man. Ha Ive actually watched full games of most of these guys. Either during the season or lately trying to catch up. Not Darius Morris, Charles Jenkins, or Jeremy Tyler yet but Ive seen a couple from everyone else. Even just parts to see how they move and play on the court. So yea Im a draft master. Dont mess!

And Im not sure if Klay is half white. I know his daddy is black, so I think hes got a Blake Griffin/Landry Fields thing going on. Who knows.

If Donatas falls to us I see him getting picked. He is too skilled an offensive player for Antoni not to want him.
