Poll: Which Player Should Not Be Selected in the 2011 Draft

Post#1 » by closg00 » Wed May 25, 2011 12:14 am

If we have to pick someone at 6, who is at the top of your NO list? The six players on the poll appear to be the ones under consideration for our pick.

NO Donut PLEASE!!! I actually don't think we should select anyone on that list at #6 except Biyombo or Kanter. If we don't end up with one of them, I will be VERY disappointed about this draft.

Great poll Closq. Sadly, this is probably better than arguing who we *want*. =p

I'd much rather reach at 6 if Kanter is gone... Tristan Thompson or Marcus Morris. Heck maybe even Singleton.

I voted Vesely, but I wouldn't be happy with Motiejunas or leonard at 6 either.
Making extreme statements like "only" sounds like there are "no" Jokics in this draft? Jokic is an engine that was drafted in the 2nd round. Always a chance to see diamond dropped by sloppy burgular after a theft.

I personally don't get the fascination with any of the Euro prospects outside of Kanter.

Looking at our roster I simply don't see what those kids can possibly bring to the team that we don't have already.

Would love to see Kanter as our 4 playing alongside McGee, but wouldn't shed a tear if we spent the pick on Leonard.

We need to trade out of this draft, if we cant move to #2. In the process of trading out of the draft, we need to get more 2012 picks or a known NBA quantity who can help us. Nobody at picks 3-10 is really worth picking at 3-10, when I compare to previous years draft.

I voted for Vesely, at least the others have a projected position. He just looks like he does nothing except be tall, lanky and spry. Wizards and other teams saying that they really like him can only be nothing but smokescreens trying to fool a sucker above them, unless they know something or have seen something that we havent.

I dont like Donatas either. Monty just looks like a career backup C to me. Nothing special at all.

Jonny V looks marginally better than Monty from what ive seen. I could see him being a Pau Gasol type of PF eventually. Long and unathletic.

Am i wrong about the two euro bigs?

Id take Kanter if he falls there. Mobile big, good pick and roll/pop game. Good mid range. Looks to be a decent defender, stays infront of his man and has good instincts, but not a great shot blocker. I see the Horford comparisons but i dont think he'll be quite as good as that. A good PF to pair with McGee imo.

If he doesnt fall (or we dont move up) i'd be happy with either Kahwi Leonard or Bismack Biyombo, who we could probably trade lower to get anyway. I like their attitudes, defense and rebounding, especially Kawhi. Those are all needs for the Wizards. I'd probably prefer Kawhi... for now. Until we get Biyombo carbon dated and we get both their measurements out of shoes etc.

I still think that a trade with Utah or Minny will happen. It just makes so much sense for both teams who would be creating a bigger logjam at PF by taking Kanter. Utah especially because they need a new PG prospect.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

It would seem that there are many correct answers to this question.

I am not sure I could sell myself on Motiejunas if he was available at 18. Maybe if Kanter was the pick at 6 and Blatche was traded, an offensively minded big might be a good addition. Under more likely scenarios, I don't see Motiejunas being the direction the Wizards want to go even in the middle of the 1st round.

The rest of the list, I think you would have to take any of them if they slipped to 18.

Vesely is my least favorite player on that list. He seems like Ared Efferies v2.

I said it about three weeks ago, but what Vesley really needs is a good excuse; like, you know, he played the whole year with the clap and after he grabbed a rebound or hit a free throw it burned when he peed for a few days, so he tried to refrain. He needs something like that to come out.

How this dude has a reputation for playing hard while grabbing 5 rebounds in 40 minutes in the Euroleague is beyond me; with those numbers, a reputation for playing hard is arguably a negative as it implies this is the best he can do.

If rumors that we like Vesley continue I'll be watchin the draft in my garage in case they DO draft him and I'm inclined to throw the remote. Wouldn't want to break my plasma.

I would probably stay away from Vesely, because the production doesn't match the physical ability...at some point you have wonder where the disconnect is. He's 6'10 with long arms and is super-athletic, can run the floor, and is non-stiff. Why isn't he a good basketball player?

Basically, we're not going to be happy with this draft. Sounds about right ;)
