New way to shed Outlaws contract?
Seattle looks to be gunning hard for a Supersonics return and if they pull it off soon as an expansion franchise then they will be able to select 1 player from each team to fill their roster. We would be allowed to protect 8 players excluding unrestricted free agents and unsigned draft picks who are not eligible to be taken by the expansion team.
Assuming 2012 is when this would all go down and assuming we sign 1 or 2 players this summer and keep our first round picks this year and next we would have roughly 10-11 players under contract in summer 2012, thus being able to protect 8 core players and leave Outlaw and most likely some scrub that no one will want unprotected, hoping Seattle would take Trout off our hands.
Since this process takes place before free agency opens up and assuming Dwight hasn't been traded or signed an extension then that would leave us with a ton of money to spend summer 2012 ready for Brooklyn.
I know its a farfetched scenario but its still a possibility and it would be the easiest way to shed his 7 mil on the cap.

No expansion team for the NBA...can't see it happening. If Seattle gets a team, it will be some other team's loss.

Wait, a team is going to take Outlaw by choice, in a draft?!

This
There is much more talk about contraction than expansion right now. Players and Owners both probably don't want to spread the talent even amongst 1 more team.
If Seattle gets a new team, it's because an existing team moved there (like NOH).
It was a good idea for getting out of his deal but facts are facts. No expansion in the NBA.

Forget the expansion vs. contraction argument. This is the most important thing lol. NO ONE is taking Outlaw by choice!

I had one of those moments. If you look down the list of threads, I'm sure you'll see my Outlaw thread. I made that one after an allnighter and look what I came up with lol.

Yes, but before the Bobcats came, there were 29 teams so it was uneven then too. I don't see how this affects the issue.

Re: New way to shed Outlaws contract?
The only way we shed his contract is he has a break out this upcoming season and we trade him for another star.
If he breaks out~ his contract seems really good.

Re: New way to shed Outlaws contract?
Guy just needs to work on his jumper this offseason. With an offseason under his belt with Deron, there is no reason he shouldn't be able to average 15ppg with Dwill running the show. Especially if we don't significantly upgrade the 3 spot or the depth at the 4.
If he's putting up 15 a game (while that'd be a career high for him, I also don't believe I'm being unreasonable), that should be enough to get him out of town.
Is it sad that I want to see him do well strictly for the reason we could actually TRADE HIM and not because it will help us win?

Lets ask him to retire, like Brandon Roy.

I'd only feel bad for Portland fans, that organization if run like ****, I don't feel bad for Paul Allen, that's for sure.

There's an easy way to shed Outlaw's contract... Nets only have to acquire worse one ;-)
But seriously speaking, what the hell happened to him this year?
Because that was historically bad season: http://bkref.com/tiny/NVNXV

He got paid more than he was worth and yet came in out of shape. He was given the starting job even though he's best when coming off the bench as an athletic 4.
Avery gave him the wrong amount of money and the wrong position, while he came in with the wrong attitude. Outlaw and Avery combined to produce his "Travesty" of a season.
