SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson on Tuesday said the cost of a new sports and entertainment arena will be between $350 million and $395 million.

The mayor said a specific figure, along with details of locations and financing, will be make public by the Taylor-ICON study group on Thursday.

The mayor said a figure of $370 million reported by KCRA 3 on Monday was not correct. Four sources,briefed earlier by Taylor-ICON gave that number as the figure discussed.

Johnson the price range is lower than estimates of $500 million to $600 million from previous years, because of the new plan has a smaller footprint and would be constructed in a down economy in which building projects are less expensive.

As far as the arena details themselves:
1,300 additional seats for NBA games
44 additional luxury suites
1,368 additional premium and club seats
High-resolution scoreboard and LCD flat screen displays
Additional lounges, kid zone, food and retail facilities

Event facilities and operations support to accommodate top concerts, shows, and other events
Surprisingly, when asked how much cheaper it would be to build the arena in Natomas, KHTK was informed that it would be only 1.3 percent cheaper, which comes out to just over 5 million.

The review was put together to be tailored to the Sacramento market, which included a review of comparable NBA markets as well. It was also noted that additional refinements to the revenue model may occur as more Kings specific data is incorporated into the analysis.

While the major question of how the project would be funded wasn’t answered, it was addressed via comparable arenas and their funding methods, a road arena proponents are sure to follow. Using 5 arenas (San Antonio, Kansas City, Orlando, Memphis, and the proposed Edmonton, Canada facility) as examples, funding mechanisms all showed both public and private funding. Private sources ranged from private operators, team rent payments, ticket surcharges, and overall bulk team contributions. Public sources included hotel and rental car taxes, arena sales taxes, and provincial contributions.

I love the new look & totally concur on seeing our cities name in big letters & showing off our cities pride .
We get this done we will have our KINGS for a long time to come & it will even attract the NCAA to bring back college hoops for the big tourny as well .

I didn't hear it myself, but apparently Carmichael Dave said that this can be done without a single public vote.

That's why there is a joint powers association. The JPA can approve a rental car tax, airport tax, hotel tax, etc without the need of a public vote. That's why all these other counties jumped in and said we'll help but rest assured you're not getting our county's money.

All of a sudden now train stations are making loads of money. Persons might more than likely won't want to drive their cars to games...especially if their a little ways outside Sacramento. This is wonderful. I'm so happy for you guys in Sac. I've never been to a Kings game let alone an NBA game, but whenever this gets built, you guys will have to run me away from there

It's being built right next to the train station, and there's supposed to be a bullet train coming through here at some point. They are already building the light north of downtown on North 7th street. My wife and I are going to celebrate by staying out all night and riding the train back home @ 6am when it finally gets to Natomas.

Its another option for transportation. Not only does it help with traffic but it gives fans a break from gas. I believe now a days you can get an all day pass to go anywhere in the city for less than ONE gallon of gas. People using PUBLIC transportation puts more money into the city, less into BIG OIL!

You can still drive as there are parking garages (8 i believe) within blocks of the proposed arena.

I drive all the time. It's not cool anymore. Not that driving is stressful but not driving is relaxing.

One of the best things about the Rose Garden in Portland is that it is virtually a hub for light rail lines coming from just about every direction in the region. This makes the Rose Garden an attractive venue for many reasons...and not for just basketball. If the arena is coupled properly with nearby development of restaurants, similar to the area around the Rose Garden, the city will quickly have a viable entertainment district...something Sacramento desperately needs downtown. The fact that you can go down there and not worry about spending a fortune on parking, or worrying about whether someone might break into your car while it's parked there (large parking lots are always prime targets) make the light rail connection a great option.
