Re: Raps looking to replace Maurizio Gherardini?
Just a few points.
-If MG is leaving the Raptors organization it doesn't necessarily mean he won't be still affiliated with the national squad.
-Drafting BPA is key here. Whether or not we nab them from Mars, some other galaxy, or simply another continent, if they are the BPA that is what matters. Enough of the "Euro hate". It is completely nonsensical to disregard anyone who might make your team better, simply because they were born/live/play in <x region of the world>
-I'm not exactly sure what MG's role was on a day-to-day basis and how impactful his input was on our organization as a whole. So I will refrain from judging how well he's done in the past 5 years, nor am I excited or displeased that he may be gone.
-David Blatt interests me quite a bit and he is someone I wish we could bring into our fold, in one capacity or another.

I think the Raps should look to bring David Blatt as an assistant. He will get the experience of being in a NBA locker room and if a coaching opportunity does not come in Toronto he will get a chance at other opportunities in the league. I am not sure about him being a front office option. Don't believe he has any experience in that position.

I keep hearing this and I don;t agree with it, whether you are talking about Blatt, or a US college coach. It's flatout nonsense for four reasons.
1. Successful coaches don't need an apprenticeship and you won't get them otherwise unless they are coming for what the French call a stage, which is like an internship. And even if they would become an assistant, it would be blatantly obvious who the real head coach of the team really is, and that would undermine the actual head coach.
2. No two NBA locker rooms are alike, and it's folly to think they are homogeneous. Would you make Mike krzyzewski or Tom Izzo go through an apprenticeship? Of course not.
3. If a Jewish kid from Princeton can coach the Russian National Team to a European championship, I'm pretty sure he's smart enough to handle a bunch of 22 and 23 year olds. Maybe if he was auditionning for Lakers head coach, he'd need time to adjust to the personalities of a veteran team, with a prima donna superstar. But here, he'd have only young players to mold.
4, What could a guy who helped Pete Carill popularize the Princeton offence, as his point guard, learn from watching Jay Triano?

Why is garbage like this allowed? Just pick BPA. Are you really going to complain if we had Marc Gasol on this team?

Lol, well let's see how I can reply to garbage 2.0, I'd say I won't complain if we get marc...some teams hit jackpot with dirk or manu but our team hasn't hit anything in the euro department thus far. I wouldn't complain if we have those type of talents but let's face it we won't and we have failed in that department! This team isn't so bright when it comes to evaluating euro prospects (bargnani, calderon, kleiza etc) and they all have major flaws and are detrimental to this team's future. Instead of scouting more euros or get better scouts, let's just stick with non-euros instead.

Im sorry but I disagee that you think euro equal bust. Most players coming from nba draft often do not became impact players. Euro's sticks out to you more but there are also as many US players that became busts.

I would have to disagree with you. Yes, Blatt wil probably not learn a lot from Jay. However, the NBA game is very different from the European Leagues, as it is very different from College game. Why is it that the College coaches who have made the jump straight from College to NBA struggle and end up going to College? Hiring a coach who has had success in a different league is a big risk. The risk can be marginalized by having the guy get some experience as an assistant before becoming a head coach.
There is also a reason why guys like Mark Jackson cannot get coaching gigs. Its his refusal to be an assistant and learn about coaching that is giving a lot of the teams cold feet.

This euro hate on this board I hope it only comes from rampant immaturity/ignorace...
Regardless, it is unbearable and borderline racism.

I believe the Euro hate comes from the fact that almost all of them have played like garbage once they got here. And in one case, ruined team chemistry all together.

this is the same old BS everytime Gheradini is discussed. How do you know what he has done for Toronto while here?
I'll even give you a hint... You have no freaking clue
