I don't think I could stomach using up our token white guy slot on this guy.

Also, the spelled Latvia wrong.

I kinda picture that as how Mike Miller will look when he's 80 years old. :o

I was pleased that Andrew Goudelock tested as athletic as he did. Kid can shoot from Gilbert range, and didn't looked as quick as all that in college, tested slow at Portsmouth, but put in the work to speed up.

We probably won't take him in the 2nd, but this kid is gonna make a name for himself in the league.

Timed 15'-18' Jump Shots on the Move
Top-5
Andrew Goudelock 21/21
Isaiah Thomas 12/13
Charles Jenkins 10/11
Kyle Singler 9/10
Marcus Morris 13/15

Bottom-5
Cory Joseph 3/9
DeAndre Liggins 4/11
Shelvin Mack 5/12
David Lighty 4/9
Tyler Honeycutt 6/13

Andre Goudelock couldn't have been better in the timed shooting drills. The only player to attempt more shots than he did was Norris Cole, who went 14/22, and no other player was perfect from the floor.

Keith Benson and Justin Harper also showed well.

It should surprise no one that Minnesota is entertaining offers for this pick. Williams is considered by most teams (including Minnesota) to be the best player available after Irving, but it's hardly a fantastic fit. Michael Beasley has a similar skill set, and forward Kevin Love and swingman Wesley Johnson don't appear to be going anywhere. One source says the Wolves have considered moving down a spot or two to take Enes Kanter while getting additional assets in a trade.

Perhaps puffery by Kahn and/or the Kanter camp? "If you want Enes, you're going to have to have to move up to #2 to get him."

Despite measuring two inches shorter (6-foot-8) than previously listed at, Justin Harper had perhaps the most impressive results of anyone. He shot extremely well for a big man, making 92 percent of his spot-up high school 3-pointers, 72 percent of college 3-pointers, 61 percent mid-range jumpers off the dribble, and 67 percent of timed mid-range jumpers on the move. Rather surprisingly, Harper matched Derrick Williams as the strongest draft prospects with 19 bench press reps each.

Harper's a major reason why the 18th pick appeals to me a lot more than it used to. But note to the writer: that 6'8 measurement was without shoes. We can take that leap of faith that he will wear shoes when he plays, so the listing was effectively off by less than an inch.

The uber athletic Faried beat Harper by only .04 in the sprint. I see Harper as a big 3 more than a small 4 given his skills.

This team needs scoring in the worst way. Not only were they at the bottom in offense last year but some of their best scorers (Gil, Thornton, Hinrich, even (gulp) Yi) are gone. Rashard is just a 1 yr rental. I think the lack of scoring around him is really hindering Wall's game.
Thank God we didn't draft the Fat Matador.

Seems as good a spot as any for this. An APBRmetrics guy who goes by wiLQ analyzed NBA draft lottery luck.

Philly came out as luckiest -- 9 times in the lottery with 4 moves up, but no moves down.

Unluckiest was Minnesota, which has been in the lottery 11 times and never moved up.

Washington ranked as the 6th most unlucky team.

Agreed, I'm thinking Harper as a 3rd forward - playing 25-30 minutes a game playing mostly the 3 and some 4 - depending on matchups - can be a tremendous weapon for the Wiz. He'd be really hard to match up with. And having multiple 3 point shooters isn't a luxury anymore; it's a necessity, imo.

Here is my ideal draft day scenario:

Assumption:
1) The asking price to get Kanter was too high and he is gone at #6
2) The Warriors want Leonard or one of the euros.

Trade: #6 and #34 to GSW for Dorrell Wright, #11 and #44
GSW move up 5 spots in the 1st and 10 spots in the 2nd.

- Seeing how Detroit made it to however many conference finals and NBA championship, Boston same story, San Antonio, and this year Chicago....Washington goes for defense in the draft
.. takes Biyomba at #10, Sinleton at #18, and Liggins at #44

I think the upside of Biyomba is way to high to pass on him at #6. 6'9 with a 7-7 wingspan and atheticism, rebounding and blocks is what we need. He is the width of 2 fingers shorter than Kanter while having a wingspan that is 6" wider...the same a McGee. Those two would alter tons of shots.

Start the season with:
PG: Wall/ Crawford
SG: Young/ Liggins/
SF: Wright/ Lewis / Singleton
PF: Blatche/ Booker/ Biyomba
C: McGee/ Seraphin

Chances are very high Lewis will be injured a good part of the season, so the young guys get to play.

I think I'm down on Harper mostly because we currently only have guys like McGee and Blatche to play with him... and that sounds like the recipe for a defensive meltdown. The lack of hustle and rebounding would be almost entertaining, in a masochistic/apocalyptic kind of way. ;)

If we shore up that area with our first pick, I'd love to have Harper as our late one. I just wouldn't want to reach of a player that lacks heart (and significant areas of production).

More and more, I think we need to either trade up for Kanter/Williams, or trade back a few spots and pick three dudes out of the roleplayer grab-bag special.

That is a big reason why Dallas is having success, multiple shooters that space out the floor. Terry, Dirk and Peja aren't known for their defense but they can rain 3s.

1) Wright has been in the NBA for six years, so it's safe to say he's basically all he's going to be.

2) All he is is a replacement level SF/SG. Why lose value on two draft picks to get a replacement level player?

Absolutely. And even old man Kidd joins in - picking his spots. And that opens the lane up for anyone to drive.

Not to be argumentative, but they balance those players with two fantastic defensive centers, and two (old but) talented defensive swingmen in Marion and Kidd.

Except for Terry, they generally have "smart" guys too, which helps with team defense.

What I'm saying is, I agree in theory, but think the application doesn't work for our current roster. We need to change a few pieces before we can be an effective team with those same defensively meh shooters.

McGee and Blatche will be low IQ and weak rebounders even if they draft Singleton to play with them. That is a serparate issue. Maybe McGee will mature into a good rebounder. I am not very hopefull with Blatche.

We also have Seraphin and Booker who are physical and play good d, although their rebounding is a problem.

Given the system that Richmond played I am not convinced that Harper is hopeless on D and on the boards. But to me this team needs shooting more than anything.

Right Ill. You can't be completely uni dimentional, and we're not going to fix the entire roster with the 18th pick. I also don't think that Harper is 1 dimentional. The videos show he was a better than advertised athlete last season, and he's gotten in ridiculously good shape since then.

Their franchise player is a shooter. They built around him. The Wizards franchise player is a pg who likes to drive and is a willing passer, but he rarely has any good shooters to pass to. And the lack of spacing makes it harder to drive.

The Wizards aren't going to be able to fill all of their holes in a weak draft. But right now who on the roster other than Rashard is a threat from the perimeter? Nick is a free agent. Blatche is a bricklayer.

I'd hope he's in great shape, he's a senior after all. :-)

I have no problems taking him at 18. That's a fair place to snag someone with his combination of talent and holes.
