Re: [Official NYK Board Community Thread] NSFW (Part 4)
So my laptop currently is struggling. The fan in the back of it died and as a result my computer overheats and dies every 30 or 40 minutes or so. It happened back in February and I bought one of those cooling pads to get me through the semester but now I don't think it's going to last. Should I pay to get it fixed (I bought this laptop back in 2008) or should I just buy a new one?
If I do buy a new one it'd be a cheap one since I'm a college student and don't that much stuff aside from surfing the internet and typing up papers. I was looking at a few $300 ones from bestbuy.com but does anyone know of any other alternatives?

1. Yes, buy a new one for 2 reasons: You've used it for a few Months now without a fan, and Laptops are NOTORIOUS for overheating. So in short, the lifespan of your already weakened Laptop got MUCH shorter (and my guess is that it was budget Laptop too). It's also heading into Summer, and it'll likely get even hotter for it.
2. Try Newegg.com instead of Best Buy. You'll get more bang for your buck. Also, time it for later this Week heading into Memorial Day Weekend so that you can further sales. Sign up to their site and create an Account then search your options and buy one.

Anyone that buys a $300 laptop should be prepared for future problems. You really get what you pay for.
I have seen time and time again that probably a year from now something breaks and then you contact technical support and they give you so much run-around. I would save more money if you can and get a decent laptop because upgrading them is hard enough. You should get the best bang for your buck.

Re: [Official NYK Board Community Thread] NSFW (Part 4)
I decided to take Greek if I end up back at my current school (I was waitlisted at the school I want to transfer to...BS).
The teacher is supposed to be great and he is teaching it by reading through Homer's poems (should be fun). My advisor recommended I take two Latin classes and two Greek classes...Latin has become a b*tch after a great first term.
Hopefully I won't be at the same school next year though and end up getting accepted. *fingers crossed*

I'm just looking for something that can get me through my last year of college, I could get something better but I'd prefer to have some buffer money left in my bank account. I'm not sure yet what I'm looking to get, but thanks for the insight.

Hangover 2 was really good. Not as good as the first one, but still a very funny movie.

Trust me I understand. Being a college student doesn't leave much on the wallet.
I made the mistake with going with a cheap laptop and I payed for it later. It was a Sony Vaio and it literally fell apart in my last year of school and I took pretty good care of it.
I just don't want people to pay for something now and end up paying for it again later. I will say that you are looking for a good brand, go ASUS.

NEVER buy Sony Laptops...cheap or high-end. That unfourtanetly was your main mistake. I always tell my friends and clients to NOT buy Sony TVs or Laptops.
There are some really good budget Laptops (those around $400-$800). Try the Site I recommended to you above. Time your purchase with a Holiday, and go with Brands like HP, and Acer/Asus for Budget Laptops.

I bought a gateway laptop on sale on amazon for 390 from 500. Only had it for 2 months (motherboard on my dell died and would have cost 600 dollars to fix) but its actually faster then my old computer. The price also includes a 3 year warranty that includes drops spills computer failure etc. really happy with it. you should look into it. Its a very nuce computer especially for the price

Yes. Should've gone:
- Samsung
- Toshiba or Panasonic (if Plasma)
- Sharp Aquos
All 3 are LIGHT YEARS better than Sony with their TVs. And Sony's Laptops are sh*t (like Gateway sh*t

Don't know about that. I had an Asus for 4 years, and it fell apart. Then I had it fixed, and it fell apart again. I have an HP Compaq now, and it's really good.
