PG- MLE or less

Post#1 » by Penberthy » Thu May 26, 2011 5:09 pm

Who is out there, and who do we want.

This is not a trade thread, this is about signing a PG outright for the MLE or less.

Steve Blake is the point guard. He can do well in an offense that isn't entirely foreign to more than 90% of the league.Fisher is a capable back up point and all we need is someone who's athletic to give us that other dimension from either of these guys.

We picked up a PG last year with part of the MLE in Blake and we see how that panned out...

However how long is Eric Maynor signed for with the Thunder? I thought that he looked good but I would only want him as a back up not a starter. Aaron Brooks is restricted but he would be nice I think also.

Aaron Brooks. Not even a question. Fast, shooter and is wired like Kobe.

Fish and Blake are not going anywhere. Therefore for our MLE what we should be looking for is a combo guard. Someone who is athletic, can play pg/sg, and can guard quick and athletic pgs/sgs.

The ideal would be Ramon Sessions. If we can give him a jump-shot at say 35% that guy could develop into an outright star. Switching between Fisher-Sessions off the bench (Fisher guards the crappy guy) we could develop the guy into a force.

Sessions is literally a strong three-point shot away from being dominant.

Yea I like Sessions too. But...if Cavs goes for Irving, I expect them to keep Sessions and Gibson and then get rid of Davis.

They're offering him. Davis is too hard to get rid of. We can get Sessions and if Kobe can teach him to shoot the damn 3 ball and put the ball in Sessions hand's to create for Kobe and the other guys other teams are in trouble.

Sessions on the P and R with Gasol is extremely hard to stop.

But if the amnesty pushes through, then B.Davis may be the odd man out. There's your combo guard. I think he has the reputation for Kobe to respect him.

How bout getting someone who played under Brown? You're asking for a combo, how bout Gibson?

Gibson though can't create offense. Fisher-Gibson is poor defensively and as far as creating a shot.

Sessions to be honest is extremely hard to stop on the P and R because he has a mid-range. If you give him a spread out floor and a roll man like Gasol he's INCREDIBLY hard to stop.

PG- Sessions
SG- Fisher
SF- Bryant

Could kill at the end of games. Add in perhaps a Rashard Lewis from the amnesty cuts and that's a tough lineup to stop.

I don't think Gibson is a combo guard. Hes just too small to be a combo guard. What you want is someone who can guard PG/SG, someone who can compensate for Fisher's and Blake's limitations when they are match up against bigger, athletic and quicker guards.

Wait, Gibson isn't a liability in defense. He proved that during their 2007 run to the Finals.

Then if not Sessions or Gibson, who would you rather get from this list:

Jamal Crawford
Delonte West
Carlos Arroyo
Anthony Parker
Jose Juan Barea
Tracy McGrady
Acie Law
T.J. Ford
Mike Bibby
Eddie House (P)
Earl Boykins
Sebastian Telfair
Sasha Vujacic
Marcus Banks
Willie Green
Anthony Carter
Roger Mason
Chris Quinn
Leandro Barbosa (P)
Ronnie Price
Earl Watson
Larry Hughes

EDIT: list includes combo guards

Delonte West is a nice player to have. He'd be a major improvement starting if he's healthy and sane. T.J. Ford in a lineup of shooters would be very good.

Acie Law turned it on a bit this year. I think you guys are forgetting that Fisher likely will get 15 mpg off the bench. That's why Sessions or a guard like him is so key. Steve Blake is likely the Laker starter unless they deal him for better.

West may be the best out of the 3 you mentioned but he isn't the stereotypical PG. But since this is the Lakers, he doesn't have to orchestrate the offense a lot. The only issue here is I don't see someone passing up signing with LA than going to their bitter rivals in green then sign with the purple and gold the next year. :P

Sorry mods for posting similar posts. I got confused.

dude parker killed gibson in the 07 finals lol

but I agree gibson is a solid defender. but hes pretty much like fisher, he sucks against quicker and athletic pgs. like I said I dont see the lakers being able to get rid of fish and blake, so what we're looking for is shannon's replacement. if we indeed get gibson he'll be playing mostly at the 2 spot, dude can you imagine a backcourt of fisher and gibson at the 1 and 2 spot? lol.

If he gets the starting nod he'll likely do it.

was referring to the conference finals. the Gibson-Billups match-up. :P yeah, he ahs problems with quicker PG's. unlikely since he's not big/heavy.

Fish and Bobbie backcourt would be a massacre.
