Chicago Bulls/Boston Celtics appreciation thread

Post#1 » by Tim_Hardawayy » Fri May 27, 2011 3:54 am

Just thought we could use a thread to show our appreciation for the battles these 2 teams put us through. I think they made us a stronger team by pushing us to our limits, and were both great opponents.

Boston made us execute better than we have all year, and focus in on every single possession defensively.

Chicago made us fight harder than any team this season and absolutely battle for loose balls, rebounds, everything.

Kudos to both teams.

I couldn't be happier that three of the four teams standing in our way were the only three teams to win the regular season series against us. 2 down, 1 to go...

I could honestly care less knowing what their fans think of us.

Yeah I really appreciate our team shutting both of their fanbases up.

I wanna thank K.G for telling LeBron last year when he got eliminated, something to the effect, that he regretted not being a Celtic while he was younger, really selling LeBron on joining the Heat along Wade and Bosh, mimicking the Boston Celtics, in a way.

Bulls for not being able to get LeBron and Bosh, we ended with Wade LeBron and Bosh. They got Boozer, yes I want to thank them, for not doing good enough job at selling LeBron.

But I want to thank Pat Riley first and foremost for actually being able to execute it all, but we still got our toughest challenge yet vs Dallas, but hopefully our boys bring another Championship over Dallas again. Let History repeat itself.

I do want to thank Chicago for their defense. I feel we're going to cook Dallas.

Both teams tested us. We've truly ran the gauntlet from the moment Lebron said "South Beach". We'll be ready for Dallas!

hats off to celts and bulls and sixers. i truly do not fathom any ill will towards the teams or cities or even fans even though im not so sure the same can be said the other way around. bulls and celts made us fight tooth and nail and dig in. they gave us some battle scars that will be needed for dallas. I wouldve not wanted it any other way either. we faced the 3 toughest matchups we couldve encountered (yes the sixers are better than the knicks) so no one can question the heats road to the chip if they manage to win it all.

I don't feel like being classy right now.

All we've heard for the last 10 months from those two fanbases has been incessant hate and immaturity. Praying our players tear their ACL's, calling our fanbase frauds and bandwaggoners, reveling in our misery.

Why have this appreciation thread for their teams?

because if it wasnt for the hate and vitriol and playing these teams we wouldnt be relishing these victories right now. thats what has made this season so sweet, so much unabashed and pointless hate it amuses me. to lash out at opposing fans and haters would be stooping to their levels. personally i find it amusing how much people hate the heat for reasons they cant justify and itll be all the more amusing iof they win a championship.

If you ever saw Troy, there's one scene where Prince Hector of Troy, after besting King Agamemnon's army in a bloody battle, tells a soldier of his to send an emissary to the Greeks, his purpose being to relay a message.. "Tell them they can collect their dead." Something to that effect.

We're basically in the most comfortable position to show respect to our fallen foes.

Yeah, I mean, I guess a thread lampooning them in which we bring up all their hate and BS that they gave us over the course of the season would be more satisfying, but this is far more class. Besides, if we were to do such a thing, we wouldn't be much better than them. There's this stupid stereotype in RGM that all Heat fans are arrogant bandwagoners who started watching basketball in 2011 and have an IQ of 80. It is absolutely childish and asinine, but if we were to not show class, it would just fuel their fire. Besides, it's not that all trolls are stupid, many of them are conscious of what they are saying, whether it makes sense or not, and if we are aggravated and be like "haha, I told you so" all pompously, it means that we were affected by them earlier, indicating that they actually won, as they got what they want.

My memory of the Bulls series will be Lebron at the line, with 3:30 left in the game and the Heat down 11 when Bulls fans decide to chant "YOU SUCK", repeatedly.

And then the comeback....

Lesson to other team fans: Don't antagonize the Heat or you will get BURNED.

Sometimes there's a thin line between grace and timidity. We've put up with a lot of **** I don't feel much of a compulsion to try to build bridges to other fanbases. If that's what this is. Neither the players on either team or its fans really handled themselves in any way that deserves applause. As for the quality of their teams, I couldn't have wanted a more challenging path to the finals (aside from NY in round 1). They are our 2 biggest rivals and really tested our mettle. We hadn't seen what our team really is until we played these teams in a playoff setting. Boston may not have been at its best, still they have the traces of what is not just a good team, but a historically great team. The Bulls D is flat out spectacular and there's some genuine bad blood between our teams that I'm happy resolved itself the way it did. I wouldn't give these teams and their smarmy fans a standing ovation for sportsmanship, but I guess I'll politely golf clap.

This is not a "We're cool, Bulls and Celtics fans" thread. Someone else can make that if they wish, I personally have nothing to say as far as that goes.

This is to respect the teams we played, and how they prepared us for what lies ahead. We were baptized by fire in the past 2 series, and I appreciate the way it went down. I've never seen a team face their demons head on like that before and come out virtually unscathed.

I 100% feel we're a better team now than we were over a month ago thanks to these 2 teams. To me, that deserves some appreciation.

Meh, we should include the Sixers in this too. Lebron and Wade had to play arguably the best player in the league equipped to defend them in Iguodala. Plus that fanbase more than any other on RealGM is incredibly classy and our game threads were examples of civility and intelligent discussion. Nothing but respect for every Sixers fan, and Westbrook36 who satires every single Heat hater on RealGM (though no one seems to recognize this lol).

The Celtics fans were a lot classier than Bulls fans imo. They gave us credit where credit is due when it came down to it. There was at least 1 level headed C's poster to every 2 stupid posters (the ratio for Chicago is approximately 1:7 unfortunately). They prepared us for the next round and pushed our guys offensively. They turned it into a battle of execution, and we needed that badly.

The Bulls, yea whatever their fans in general suck to be completely honest but there are still a few good posters. Their team really made us get down into the nitty gritty of what it takes to be a great defense. I can look at this series as the turning point where we were finally able to realize our dream lineup of the Big 5. They forced Mike Miller and UD to get into rhythm and game shape on the fly, particularly the latter. This trial by fire made us so much more prepared for Dallas, because without this series UD wouldn't have had his opportunity to come back so strong and MM wouldn't have found his stroke and confidence. And especially for MM now is when we need it more than ever, he's a crucial player for us and the value of his versatility is immeasurable. And with those guys firing on all cylinders, as much as the Bulls won't admit it, we're the flat out superior team no ifs ands or buts about it.

So now...on to the next one. 4 more!
