Baltimore (24-27) @ Seattle (26-26)

Post#1 » by TTown » Mon May 30, 2011 5:09 pm

Jake Arrieta (6-2, 4.57) vs. Doug Fister (2-5, 3.18)
Jeremy Guthrie (2-6, 3.63) vs. Erik Bedard (3-4, 3.48)
Brian Matusz (0-0, 0.00) vs. Michael Pineda (6-2, 2.42)

Baseball is a funny game: you kind of get hung up on the latest game, which for us was a bad loss. But really, we did what we set out to do: we won a home series against the Yankees. That was a good weekend, Vargas' dud notwithstanding. Now we need to show up and beat the O's. I like the pitching matchups every game; Matusz will be making his first start against Pineda.

2-0 M's, bot 1

Jack Cust... with a triple. No, seriously. He hit a triple. 2nd of his career.

Hey, nice strike out with the bases juiced, Chone.

The M's do get 2 more in the 3rd, though. 4-1.

4-3 M's final.

A close game at the end masks what was a pretty awesome afternoon by Fister.

Our fans are really letting Figgins hear it. I thought he might cry after his error.

Raise your hand if you thought we stood even a 1% chance of winning this game after the 2nd out was made in the 8th inning.

...*crickets*

Crazy game. Who would have thought that the 2-out error would have led to that. Smoak got a juicy pitch and absolutely demolished it. Love those no-doubters.

And I find it hilarious that if you were to ask me which player on the team I would want at the plate with bases loaded and 2 outs, my answer would be Brendan Ryan. LOL. He is so on fire its ridiculous.

Oh, and Chone Figgins is the worst player in baseball. Hands down. Glad he was on the bench today. Keep him there.

Wow! Smoak. Say no more. That's what we've been talking about of our need.

Another nice performance by Bedard. He's really been coming through for us as the season progresses, and after his tentative start to it.

I turned the game off in the 7th inning to go do something else and was shocked to turn on the post-game show in my car and hear that they won the damn thing.

Definitely a great job by Bedard...I really didn't know what we would get out of him after so much time off due to injury/recory, and he didn't look good when the season first started. His turnaround has been a pleasant surprise.

Some funky stats, courtesy of SportsCenter of all places.

We started the season 16-23. We averaged 3.5 runs/game. We're now on a 12-3 run, but our runs/game over the last 15 is nearly identical: 3.7. The difference? A 3.75 team era over the first 39 games has dropped to 2.22 over the last 15. Still not scoring, but damn can we pitch.

Pineda today!

And then hit the go-ahead HR in the 8th.

We need some more late inning magic.

Sucked to lose, but we still took the series. I'm good with that.

Lets keep it going tomorrow!
