Devin Harris to Portland?
This is a chat with Bill Ingram on Hoopsworld.com and this is what he said,
Joe in Sumner, WA:
what do u c Portland Doing For b/up PF and PG of the Future. Not sure PG of future in this draft. Also Rudy must go imo along w/Mills and Earl B.
Bill Ingram:
I've heard some discussion that the Blazers could acquire Devin Harris this summer . . .he makes a lot of sense for Portland, and no sense for the style of play the Jazz are accustomed to. If they can get Devin they could draft a back-up point guard like Fredette (see above) and be just fine.

I dont know how credible this is but it might spark some good discussion. Is there anything that Portland could offer that would make this worth it? And lets be honest, they would most likely not be including wesley matthews in the deal....

Portland massively overvalues their players, I hope the Jazz don't try to make a trade with them.

Re: Devin Harris to Portland?
I think it is more that Portland fans overvalue their players, but as far as what they can offer - I am sure that pick would have to be a part of it. If they still had Dante Cunningham I would say him too, but as is I would not be shocked for it to be Rudy+21+expiring for Devin. Something like this was proposed on the trade board and was more interesting to me
Portland Out: #21, Rudy Fernandez, Andre Miller
Portland In: Devin Harris, Ronnie Turiaf
New York Out: Ronnie Turiaf, Landry Fields
New York In: #12, Rudy Fernandez
Utah In: Andre Miller, Landry Fields, #21
Utah Out: Devin Harris, #12
Not sure if that was exactly it, but pretty close. Not sure how good Fields really is/could be in Utah, but I think that he'd be a decent fit and would really help with our perimeter defense.

Does Bill Ingrim know that the 60 somethings have retired? What style is he referring to?

Portland turned down Cousins for Batum and Duncan for Oden.

Re: Devin Harris to Portland?
Portland has wanted Harris for awhile, but this would be bad trade for the Jazz.
If Portland wants Harris, then give back Matthews and throw in Miller.
Even if the Jazz get a PG in the draft, if the PG prospect isn't any better than Knight, then they won't be able to start for 3 or more years. Miller is in the final year of his contract. He's not as good as Harris and won't help the Jazz in one shortened lockout season. Then he's gone.
Portland getting Harris is a long shot.

Why would we want Miller? Even if we draft Knight or Walker, we are not challenging for the title next year, there's no need to have an old veteran run the point...... We might as well turn it over to a rookie...... It will make the rebuilding process that much shorter......

Harris and Fredette will play together, but in Jazz uniform you fool
gossip that blazers want to get Harris is old like a world, they tray to acquire him from Nets but Jazz were better, end of theme.

E--this is a new rumor saying Portland is going to wind up with Harris by THIS summer. The speculation is the trade would include Miller. It's a douche bag rumor, but it's a rumor.

Neither Knight nor Walker would benefit from being thrown into a starting PG position. It will take them 2 to 3 years to work up to that. Putting them in as starters could set the team back in it's rebuilding several years. The other young guys need a good PG in order to keep their development on track.
KOC always drafts based on 3 years down the road and not the help they can give the team now. Help now is what trades are for.
I also have doubts as to whether either one of them will be any better than Harris.

That works in Trade Machine.
That would make a PG the smart pick with #3

I'd also do that. I'm a big fan of Miller and getting Matthews back in Utah would be awesome.

You don't develop players by having them sit on the bench..... The quicker the Jazz figure this out the better it will be for everyone involved......
I don't know if I would be holding out KOC's draft track record as an example of what to do...... I think he's a good GM, but Draft Strategy ain't his thing.......
If we are really serious about actually rebuilding rather than being a competitor for the 8th seed, we have to turn the rookies (and Hayward and Favors) loose......

Ninety five percent of the time rookie's ain't ready for prime time. They should get 10 minutes a game and that's about it for the first year. Especially the "teens". Knight is a long way from being ready to be the starting point guard on any NBA team, especially one that has a PG as good as Harris.

KOC drafting record isn't really the issue. It's his strategy and how he thinks. We'll see where his thinking leads. We don't get to draft the players, he does.

If the Jazz stick with Harris, draft Kanter and pick up an SG somewhere, the Jazz just got a whole lot better. So the wait shouldn't be too long. On the other hand, if the Jazz trade Harris, don't get a big that can play center and start a rookie point guard, the rebuilding will be long and painful.
Hayward and Favors ain't rookies anymore. They'll get a lot more playing time, especially Hayward because they know what they're suppose to do to make the team function.

Well a trade of:
Devin and Bell for Wes and Andre will work. This could go down.

If Wes were still a 9 and 3 player it could, as is there is not a chance that the Blazers even consider.

Yeah I'm trying to figure out why the Blazers would do this. Because Wes had such a **** year for them?
The Jazz had their shot at Wesley Matthews and they declined. Move on.

Glad to see you guys have your heads on straight. Absolutely no reason for Portland to do this. Portland would essentially be paying 17 million dollars just to give Mathews back.

Re: Devin Harris to Portland?
But if they think Harris is the PG they need then a Matthews for Harris deal is what they would do.. Bell and Miller are just what it takes to get it done.
