it never hurts to have a backup veteran who can produce.

the rebuilding process might be shorter but riskier that couldn't actually produce good results that would turn the process into a longer one.

Portland gave the Western Conference champs fits in the first round. They aren't about to trade their second best player for Devin Harris. Devin Harris is good, but Wes Mathews is better. And there is no chance that Portland trades Wes after paying him 15 million + for one season. Portland would essentially be trading their second best player for a slight upgrade at PG and a HUUUUUUGE downgrade at SG.

Hypothetical:

Devin, Bell, GSW pick
Wes and Dre coming home

How much closer does it bring a slanted trade in value (Blazers aren't rebuilding so i understand draft picks at the expense of talent isn't their plan)

Jazz fans love Wesley Mathews. Portland fans love him just as much, if not more. Imagine if we still had Wesley. Would anyone here trade him for a good point guard, and an uncertain draft pick? Of course we wouldn't. So neither would they. The Portland Trailblazers aren't the MInnesota Timberwolves.

As Wesley Mathews fans, we often act like twitterpated boys still holding out hope for the return of their true love. Bottom line is Wesley is not coming back, unless it is as a free agent. Portland is pushing Roy to retire. A big reason why they are ok with doing so is because of one Wesley Mathews. Lets face it guys. Wesley left us... and he isn't coming back. Now please excuse while I take a bath and cry into my Ben & Jerrys Cherry Garcia.

I checked out the Portland board and this is more what they had in mind:

Miller/Batum/Camby (would retire if traded)/1st
for
Harris/Millsap/Miles or Bell [either to match salary]

Harris is good for them but they REALLY want Millsap. And they have no interest in sending Matthews back. They think Utah would go for this because they get expiring contracts and are rebuilding. Non-starter for us...

Boy that's awful.
Harris>Miller
Millsap>Batum
CJ/Bell>Retired Camby (but not by much)

Sorry Portland, but GTFO

I'd actually consider that trade. We'd clear up the power forward spot for Favors, improve our cap situation, add a nice young piece who could potentially be a great compliment to our young core, bring in some nice veteran mentors for a year (or longer, if we want) and get rid of Raja's sorry ass.

I love Millsap, but I don't see him fitting in to our future plans. Considering that Harris and Bell almost definitely don't fit either, the idea of adding a super athletic, potential-laden 6'8'' 22 year old who can play multiple positions, shoot and defend while also clearing up cap space sounds fairly enticing to me. I wouldn't necessarily jump at the deal, but if you're looking at it in terms of what it could do for us in the long term rather than the short term, I think it's well worth a look. If you think our current team is worth keeping together, I can see why you'd disagree, but I feel like we should be looking to rebuild and this trade would help with that.

Batum will never be as good as Millsap. Ever.

I'll trade Millsap for a package tailored around Matthews or Aldridge. Otherwise you will need to get a third team involved.

Harris/Millsap for Miller/Matthews. You have to trade a gamer to get gamer. Blazers would have to throw in a scrub to make it work.

Seriously... that trade isn't any better. Like was pointed out, we give up better players across the board.

I would be interested in Wes and Aldridge.

Some of you guys really need to get over Miller and Wes... let it go.

I'd do that trade.. much as I like milsap and his contract..Miller's expires so we could be in danger mode without any decent PG after next season.

What's really sad is Bell/CJ's contract combined equals Matthews contract...*doh*

there was a deal that almost went down before the deadline between these guys. does anyone else remember those realistic rumors. That Harris wasnt even going to play a game for the jazz that we were getting Miller and something else.i dont remember though.

I don't remember that rumor at all.

Utes fans need to get over their fascination with Miller and Bogut. Neither of them are coming to the Jazz.

My desire to have Bogut on this team has nothing to do with where he went to school and everything to do with the type of NBA player he is.

For those same reasons I DON'T want Andre Miller.

There is nothing wrong with getting Miller. He's filler though, not the target in a deal.

I'm not trading Harris for a late first in a weak draft, Rudy Fernandez and filler.

If I'm the Jazz I tell Portland the same thing Wolverine said in the movie I watched last night.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Word is, South Beach is ecstatic that they
won't be seeing Millsaps talents again this season...
