If there is a lockout next season Cavs could potentially be picking top 3 again next draft if they go off this year's records. There will be no chance cavs will be medicore/8th seed contenders next season if there is a lockout. The year after the lockout we could be be looking at a lineup of
irving
rivers
?
hickson
kanter

^^doesnt have to be rivers, there will be many great wing players next draft.

my point is that this team will have added 3 young lottery picks in addition to hickson, which has to make it one of the quickest rebuilds in the NBA.

How about you ask the Timberwolves about that...

Umm...you can't compare an organization with a mediocre ownership and a completely incompetent GM to an organization with an owner willing to spend close to 40 Million dollars for the top two picks (if it happens) and a new GM that acutally has a rebuilding philosophy in place BEFORE his first draft, wheras Kahn still doesn't even have a plan...

Now about a top 3 selection next year...it depends who we take with our #4, or if we achieve the #2 pick, than that... If we take Derrick WIlliams with 2, we obviously won't be looking at small forwards...I hope to God we take Kanter at 2 assuming we get it...the wings in next years draft are SO much better than Williams, even the ones likely available at #5 next year... one thing I do know is that Austin Rivers is sure as hell not defending any 2 guards in the NBA, unless it's a small lineup.

If we had a top 3 pick next year, I would take in this order: Anthony Davis,Harrison Barnes, James McAdoo,Michael Gilchrist, Quincy Miller, Perry Jones III...DAMN that's a SICK crop of extremely talented forwards coming out soon...I cannot wait for the next draft...Add in Bradley Beal, Austin Rivers, Jeremy Lamb, and LeBryan Nash, and every pick in the top 10 will have star potential... crazy DEEP.

If there is a season though, starting Kyrie and player B will be great because they will likely not win a lot right away so we'll still get a great pick next year, AND they will get used to NBA starter minutes.

I agree. It is highly possible that we are a 30-40 win team next year. Weren't a lot of us thinking we'd win 35 win team at the start of this last season? In fact we were on pace for that and beat some good teams like Boston until Varejao and Mo went down with injures, then everything fell apart.

Rookies, if they are good can impact teams. Griffin did it this year, Lebron did it with us, Carmelo did it with the Nuggets, turning a 20 win team to 40 win playoff team, Rose did it with Chicago. With our draft picks plus having guys like Varejao back, we'd be atleast 30 win team next season.

Lockout or not we should still be in the lottery. Even if everyone's dream scenario comes true and we get Irving and Kantor we still will have 3rd string talent starting at the 2 and 3. I don't expect us to use the MLE this year to shore up either. I think they're looking at a high pick next year as part of the rebuild. All we have to do is hit on pick #4.

The downside of this is that if we did draft Kanter and Irving, neither of whom have played much basketball the last year, missing another season might hurt their growth as basketball players. Kanter especially, must be dieing to get on the court to prove his worth and start learning the NBA game. I'm sure he can run lots of treadmills again during the lockout but missing another full season at such a developmental time in a player's career could be really damaging.

Cavs could (and most likely will) have a top 3 pick next year as well. More importantly there would be a season to unload some of the guys that aren't long term. Sessions, Gibson, etc.

This.
A lot depends on if/how we use the TPE. Hopefully its for a 2012 pick and the contract we will have to absorb to get that, and if BD comes back motivated and in shape/healthy we could see a decent jump in the number of wins. And I agree if we get Kanter and Irving I would hate to see both of those guys miss another season, especially their rookie seasons where they should get extended minutes.
And honestly, even if it benefits the team to miss an entire season, do we really want to endure a typical Cleveland winter with no basketball? Sometimes after dealing with 10 inches of snow the only thing that can keep my attitude positive is looking forward to that nights game. This past season was difficult in that regard, but knowing that it would at least pay off in a high pick helped.
"Just say no" to a lockout, hopefully the NBA is able to avoid a work stoppage.
