Lakers Coach Mike Brown 2 Interviews Today Fox Sports Radio

Post#1 » by H00PDREAMS » Tue May 31, 2011 7:17 pm

Mike Brown Will Be Introduced As New Laker Head Coach At 3 P.M. On Tuesday & Interview following on AM570 KLAC with Petros & Money.

May 31 10:07a by Jordan Ruby

The Los Angeles Lakers have hired Mike Brown to be their new head basketball coach. That much we know. How he will handle the pressure of coaching on what is arguably the NBA's biggest stage, following one of it's greatest coaching legends, remains to be seen. The first step in that journey begins on Tuesday, when the Lakers will introduce Mike Brown as their new coach in a press conference at 3 p.m..

You can find the press conference streaming live on Lakers.com, but if you can't do that, I'm sure that Twitter will be a good source for any breaking comments that Brown makes.

We'll also be covering the press conference in this stream, and will have some of his more relevant quotes for you as they happen. But for more on the Lakers, and some more fan-centric reaction, head on over to Silver Screen and Roll. It might not have been the coach we were all expecting, but the Mike Brown era starts today.

AM570 KLAC is now reporting that it is believed that Mike Brown and Kobe Bryant have met for lunch today near Bryant's home.

I suspect that Brown wanted to meet with Bryant so in the event he could mention that he did meet with Kobe if he were to be asked during upcoming press conference.

Should have planned a beach party in Santa Monica ala Miami Heat for the big guy and let him pull the "Not 1.. not 2.." comment when asked what his expectations were for the Lakers.

I like how he said you can't take your offense from team to team, you need to adjust to the personnel you have. Which makes sense, everyone roasts Brown for how he ran his offense in Cleveland, but if you had LeBron James and no one around him except Mo freakin Williams, your going to run what's tried and true and wins you games.

I'm pumped. This usually may not be a big deal, but it's the Lakers we're talking about. That's a highly coveted job and they're feeling pretty confident with their decision. I wouldn't be surprised if we won the next two championships after the Heat wrap it up this year. #real talk

I liked him too... I just think he talked too long. He doesn't have a lot to say right now not having had much time with the team... A more seasoned coach might have seen that and cut the interviews short.

I like his approach but the more he talked, the more I questioned his vision for the team.

I'm more optimistic now than I was yesterday, but I still think he needs some help on his staff to make this work.

Phil always seemed like the smartest guy in the room... He just exuded that.
MB seems like the guy who gets by more with effort and determination.

It's definitely a different feeling for the Lakers... I think it could be a good one.

Here's the thing for me guys, one thing is certain we all loved Phil no doubt about that. But there was certain quirks that maybe agitated a lot of us. For me it was about Phil's approach to prepare the team in training camp, year in and year out we looked like we did jack squat with the 3 1/2 weeks of camp. We'd go into preseason games with a look of confusion and dysfunction.

I always harped on that lack of preparation led to issues we carried into the season, bottom line having some new blood in camp leads to hunger. I'm not saying we have to win games in the preseason, but at least let us see some new wrinkles and how stuff works.

From here on out everything we do will start from camp, I'm excited about Brown, not at first but you have to come to conclusions after careful analysis. To me Brown was better than hiring some offensive retread in Adelman, or a control freak in Dunleavy and JVG was a long shot to start.

Feel bad Shaw fell out the loop, heck he's not even going to get the GSW job now. Bottom line this hire was about where we were at and how close a title is still in reach. We had to go with who was more proven.

He confirmed that Messina is a candidate. I hope that happens.
I liked that he has a movement concept to keep from having Pau ( and to some degree) Andrew from having to constantly bang to get points.

I also liked his defensive concepts.

He's definitely an odd fit for the hollywood media machine, but like he said "winning will take care of that"

He actually seems like he has a personality and who knows how he might come out once he doesn't have to deal with the drama that Lebron brought with him.

He said some pretty good things:
- he doesn't want to walk the ball up
- some/ most of his offense will be pulled from his stint with the spurs... In 03 I believe when they had the twin towers
- pretty much said the triangle is gone. But then it said he would also use some of it as long was the players were comfortable
- people will be held accountable on defense and that he will burn timeouts to teach. And if you still didn't get it he will pull you out of the game
- wants the bigs to be on the move so they can get easy baskets. Doesn't want them to have to bump and bang for every shot
- Kobe will still get his looks. Doesn't plan on changing the things that Kobe does on the court

That's all I can remember. I only listened to part of the interview... And that was like 8 hrs ago

tell you what, mike brown is a straight talker.

the difference is light and day from phil.

but yeh, i agree with iki4life, mike brown is pressing all the right buttons, no wonder he jumped straight to the head of the queue for lakers HC position

for those that missed the presser: http://www.nba.com/lakers/video/2011/05 ... index.html

mike brown has left an incredibly good impression, he's even brought that real family atmosphere to his presser, he's even trying to remember the journos' first names, he's laughing and joking and keeping it straight barrelled

Makes me wonder if we will see a Lamar/Gasol/Bynum lineup on the court more often.

Brown was smart enough to know he better meet face-to-face with Kobe on Tuesday before being introduced as the team's new coach and having to explain why they haven't met. 'I felt good about our meeting,' Brown said, and what's the likelihood he would have said he felt badly had it gone that way? Brown said Kobe was headed to Europe on vacation; apparently some waiter overseas would hear what he thinks of Brown before anyone here. Kobe has three more years remaining on his contract, and the Lakers world is going to continue to revolve around him. The guy with 11 championship rings who preceded Brown learned to accept that. It's a pretty safe wager Kobe is going to remain as Uncoachable as ever. Brown's job is to make that work so the Lakers can still win as a team. 'I'm not going to sit back here and say my time in L.A. is going to be defined by what my relationship with Kobe is going to be,' Brown said, just like his time in Cleveland wasn't defined by LeBron. But then of course it was."

Reports from the Mike Brown & Kobe Bryant meeting that was held at Southern California golf resort's restaurant near Bryant's home. It was explained as being more of a meeting about Brown's family relocation. Also there was reports that Brown and Bryant discussed defensive strategies and Brown was in good spirits the whole time and Kobe was seen often "smiling" and "laughing".
Reported May 31st @ AM570 KLAC Los Angeles on PMS 4PM Broadcast.

Well either Kobe is putting on a good face in front of Brown or he really has warmed up to the fact that Brown is the Lakers new coach.
