I've said it before and I'll say it again, the only reason I'd want LeBron on my team is so I could make him inactive for 82 games a year.

Can't stand the preening douchebag and would not want him on my team. There's a lot of players out there that irritate me as opponents but I would love their antics if they were on the Wiz (KG, Zaza, Sideshow Bob, etc) but I don't think I could ever bring myself to root for James.

To be fair, a big part of my hate for him is because the media (and especially ESPN) has been shoving him down our throats for the past 8 years and I'm sick to death of hearing about him.

LeBron is a douche.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/wi ... story.html

"And not only being able to do that, but being able to do it with one of my best friends, one of the best players we have in this league today in Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh."

[edit: Zonker's paraphrase of above quote]LeBron: "I wanted to join up with the most important player in the NBA to me right now, Dwyane Wade. Oh yeah, and that coat-tail riding guy, whatsisname. Bosh."

If I'm Chris Bosh, I would hate LeBron's guts.

Plus the guy beat us by taking four steps. How can you not hate a guy for that? Plus, you know, you saw "The Decision" right? Anyone who doesn't hate LeBron after that just doesn't have a soul.

Umm, that's not what Lebron said. Funny, though.

he never trash talked or disrespected our players or organization. if anything our fans disrespected him. i went to at least 1 playoff game every year during the short span of the wizards being decent. i remember the "overrated" chants clearly.

bron is the best player in the NBA simple as that. i wish our fans would stop being so salty and just appreciate his game. although the decision did leave a sour taste in my mouth, not enough for me to hate him. i love watching great players. bron is one of the most talented players ever.

+1

I'll probably get a lot of backlash for this, but I agree with him.

lets not forget that lebron himself has some personal hatred towards washington. its a 2way street.

What is this fella complaining about.

I just watched an interview with Wade and they were asking him how it feels to me on the most hated team. You think they are the most hated team because of Wade ? Most people liked Wade.

Hate of LeDouche is universal. We just saw it before most.

The first time LeBJ entered the arena to hear a chorus of "overrated" he was in DC. Of course he laughed at the puny fans, as he does in every arena, including his home court. Why worry about those sad, silly whiners.

He shot 3-23, scored 8 points, the Wiz beat the Cavs 111-66, he whined about officiating literally the entire night, his shorts were clearly wet, and fans sitting near the Cavs bench were certain those shorts were soiled. As he left the arena in tears, well before the game was over, to a chorus of stinky underwear, he made a vow: "I will destroy this team, and its entire league." The next game against the Wizards, fueled by anger and rage and playing at home, he scored 13 points on 5-17 shooting, loosing again to the Wizards, 94-72. The Cavs made it to the FT line 20 more times than the Wiz, but still he insisted, "The refs took us out of our game." Even his teammates laughed at him. The Wizards left his home court to cheers.

That's why LeBJ hates the Wizards. Look it up.

Hate of Lebron is "universal"? I don't think so. There are a lot of folks rooting hard for Lebron and the Heat, though most of us hated how James handled "The Decision."

This support for Lebron is by and large a reaction to the red hot hate that's been directed at him ever since he decided to exercise his free agent rights and sign with the Heat. There's a real divide out there as it relates to how people feel about Lebron and, unfortunately, most of it is racial/cultural. (see golfer Paul Azinger's comments.)

I vehemently disagree with hatred for Lebron being racial in nature.

I hate Lebron. It has nothing to do with race. Or that an African-American man can't exercise his free agent rights.

I don't hate Bosh. I don't hate Shaq - even after he left Orlando.

Lebron being a douchebag is 100% the reason for my hated for him. The referring himself in the third person when speaking, "The Decision", etc.

Don't bring race into something that's as clear as day. Lebron has acted like an azz. That people hate him are the logical consequences of acting like an azz.

Period. End of story.

I'm the last person to trivialize racism. There is a lot of racism in this country. It is a real problem.

But anyone who says LeBron hate is about racism needs to have their head examined.

Didn't mean to suggest that your hatred (or all hatred) of Lebron is racial, pine. But a lot of it is racial/cultural...whether you recognize it or not. And I can assure you that some of the SUPPORT for Lebron is racial.

You're crazy if you think that the fact that Lebron is a 6-9, 275 lb. BLACK man with a body full of tattoos and a ton of on and off-court attitude has nothing to do with people's perception of him. Otherwise, why would golfer Paul Azinger call him a "thug."

This is still America, zonk, and there's still a racial/cultural dimension that still all too often comes into play...from both sides.

LBJ is a major douche and a gaping and enlarged @$$#01&.
That's the reason I hate him. Also a whining narcissistic primadonna.

I think the answer is - while there are exceptions, the vast majority of the hatred toward Lebron is not racial. And a lot of it is silly without being racial. Some of the things he's said - well before he left Cleveland - were absurdly egotistical stuff that made me think he thought of himself as god-like. It's fair to say that Lebron has been farrrrrrr less than humble at times. Having said that, I think he's taken farrrrrrr more abuse than is fair for leaving Cleveland. Yes, I know - it's "how" he left Cleveland, but it's still an absurd amount of abuse. Personally, while I think he's a flawed person, I don't think he's a bad guy, and I have zero hate for him.

DCZards, 40 years ago, Jim Brown, Wilt and Reggie Jackson seemed to have a lot more attitude, at a time when it was more explicitly condemned. I generally liked them, and saw such condemnation in the terms you describe. There's still quite a bit of that around, and it does impact positive and negative perceptions of basketball players and presidents. Regardless of LeBJ's talent, his career has also been scarred by what I see as some bad choices (and a whiney on-court style that seems undignified) that have left an impact on his image.

Choosing to play for another team, which is his right, is not one of those events, except in the minds of old-timers like Jordan, Barkley, Bird and Magic, and narrow mided people. The way he left (and I don't mean just the announcement itself) made me further wonder about him, but I don't know the whole story. Neither he nor the Cavs appear blameless to me. Who cares what Azinger or whatever his name is says; he leads a sheltered life, and must not know that 40% of Americans under age 40 (possibly including his own kids) have tattoos. Hey golfer-dude, a thug is a criminal. LeBJ plays basketball. They're different. Putt that around for awhile.

Oh yeah, what dobrojim said.

I think DCZards's point is a good one. It's not that the ocean of people who dislike Lebron are overtly racist -- they're not saying they hate Lebron because he's black. It's that the actions of black people are perceived differently than similar actions from people of other ethnicities.

As an example, a black friend who lives in Virginia was out jogging one night. Kinda late because he had to work late. Cop pulls up, flashes the lights. COP: "Why you running?" MY FRIEND (silent WTF?), then: "Exercise." He was wearing gym shorts a T-shirt and running shoes. If it'd been me (white guy) dressed exactly the same, there's no way the cop would've stopped me.

This racial/cultural thing reared its head with the Arenas gun incident. You think Gil is the first athlete to bring guns into the locker room? Think he's the first to get caught? It became a major cultural event; Gil became the latest "thug" in no small part because he's a black basketball player. If it'd been Dirk bringing guns into the locker room, it almost certainly would have been dismissed as a stupid prank. Gil was instantly transmogrified into a thug, even though he's almost the opposite of that.

When Larry Bird talked trash and bragged publicly (which he did, many times), he was celebrated for it. When Rickey Henderson bragged, he was a selfish prima donna.

As for Lebron, I haven't liked his public persona since his first season. It's always been too calculated, too self-conscious, too phony for my taste. I've always admired what he can do on the court, though. And, I agree with Ruz -- the "hate" he's receiving far exceeds his actual actions in leaving Cleveland, talking about himself in the 3rd person, etc.

This is all semantics. If you hate LeBron because of some preconceived notion you have about black NBA players (they're all "thugs"), that's racist. If you hate LeBron because of the vast available evidence that he's a douche, that's not racist, that's being observant.

I mean yeah, there were idiots out there calling Gilbert Arenas a thug. Are you kidding me? Anyone who says that clearly knows nothing about Gil and is making a judgement based solely on preconceptions. That's racist. Duh!
