49th pick of the Draft
Most of the time the Grizz would be active in the draft, but after the last few yrs and the best season they played. The Grizz will only have to pick #49 in this year's draft.
Who do you feel the Grizz should draft @ this slot?

Re: 49th pick of the Draft
It's always such a crapshoot by that point in the draft.
Generally teams will do one of 3 things in the bottom half of the 2nd round:
1) Take a guy they know/have seen a lot of. Senior that has a good body of work.
2) Take a Euro and stash them.
3) Take the guy that surprises them at the team workouts.
The Grizz generally go with 1 or 3, and I don't expect any significant change. The guy I'd like to see them take, if they are indeed resigned to this pick, is Gary Flowers from Southern Miss. He's an "is what he is" guy, but he's got a nose for the ball and I think would be in the Sam Young mode of ready to contribute (with a definite ceiling) sooner than later.
No if, hope beyond hope, Jeremy Tyler slipped to the Grizz, I'd be overjoyed.

dont like too much the idea of jeremy tyler, i hope chandler parsons could slipped to 2nd round and we can move up a little to take him, but i dont think hes going to pass the first round.

Re: 49th pick of the Draft
The Grizz are not into getting any younger and at this point want experienced contributrs, so I favor the drafting of a European player who is not brought over in the immediate future. Nikola Mirotic of Montenegro, just re-uped w/Real Madrid so he may stay a few more years. A 6'10" 225 PF with three point skills might be the change of pace we need after next season when Darrel Arthur enters his restricted free Agency. We can't pay everybody and unless the rules change with the new CBA his initial contract will be more lucrative than a slotted non lottery first rounder.

I like the Europe angle but I know nothing about any of the players over there.

Take a Euro and let him develop overseas for a few years - any roster spot (and salary) potentially taken by a rookie this year should be given to a vet role player acquired via free agency or trade IMO.

Agreed. By the way, off topic, it's crazy here in Vancouver. The city is in a frenzy over our Canucks.
I have to tell you guys a funny story. The day before the first game against Boston, a guy who is from Vancouver but now plays hockey in Edmonton, Gilbert Brule, who had tickets for the game, was driving in the suburbs with his girlfriend and dog, going to a park to take it for a walk. They noticed a couple of guys on the side of the road hitchiking in the rain. They stopped to pick the guys up. The one hitchiker says they were out for a hike in the woods when it started to rain and asked if they could get a lift back a ways. When Brule and his girlfriend said sure, the guy says he is playing a concert tomorrow night in Alberta, the next province over from British Columbia, and for giving them a lift he offered them a plane ride and a backstage pass to the concert. It turned out the hitchiker was Bono from U2 and his assistant. He even thanked Brule on stage the next night. Brule sold his Stanley cup tickets and took Bono up on his offer.
True story. I kid you not.

I like the Flowers kid. I saw him play against the Tigers in the Forum. But we already have a better Flowers in Arthur.
We should see what we can get for the 49th pick and Sam Young.

Re: 49th pick of the Draft
Nikola Mirotic is a player I would like to see us taking a look. Also Vucevic should be a helpful backup to Marc, but I doubt he slips to 2nd round. Another player who impressed me is Andrew Gouldock, maybe he can replace some of the Mayo´s shooting

David Lighty would be a good player for you guys I reckon

When you consider Henry and Gay, did not play the most of the season, we should either invest in a C prospect or stash a Euro.
We have more than enough talent, time to build for the future and player losses.

Re: 49th pick of the Draft
I really would like us to pick up DeAndre Liggins. He is one of the most underrated defenders I have seen at the college level. He can come in and immediately lock down people in the NBA. He fits in well with Tony Allen and Battier if we resign him. With the 49th pick, you cannot go wrong with a role player who is one of the best I have seen on defense at the college level.
I have heard Zoran is not as skilled as his brother, but I have no seen him play myself. I wouldn't mind selecting a poor man's Goran Dragic either. I just want us to pick up someone who can stick around. Liggins is an NBA player without question.

Who knows, now we can maybe play Selby next to Vazquez. That seems like a backcourt combination that could work pretty well.
And I wasn't hugely impressed with Smith either but I don't see any reason to dump him yet.
Although his free throw shooting is obviously something you don't need from a primary ball handler...so actually yeah, looking at his career ft shooting numbers, peace out Ish.
