And yes I suppose there's a slim possibility that he could be a franchise player, given if he health holds up. But hopefully it isn't for this team.

One thing though jetset I don't understand. If a player is a franchise player he's elite period. So why wouldn't you want that for our team?

That may have sort of come out wrong. What I meant was that there's a possibility that he could be a franchise talent or at least a very strong 2nd option if his health holds up. But that's the thing, I don't see his health hold up, nor do I see him being an "elite" talent. I don't necessarily think you have to be elite to be a franchise talent, Granger isn't elite and wouldn't he be considered the Pacers franchise talent? A very good player, but not great.

you have to be elite to be a franchise player. Granger is not a franchise player, he's just the pacers best player right now. theres a difference between being franchise talent, all-star talent, and very good players.

examples:

kobe bryant is a franchise player

pau gasol is an all star

lamar odom is very good

crudely done, but this is my impression of "tiers" in the NBA. obviously there is some wiggle room, as in players could jump between tiers, or even fall down. guys who are "all star" talent are perennial fixtures on the all-star team, as in 5/6/7 appearances. very good, but not good enough to build around for a championship. players who are very good might make 1 or 2 all star games, but are generally too inconsistent or have a flaw in their game that prevents them from improving (health could be a flaw).

bynum will fall somewhere in between that all-star and very good section imo. even if health wasnt a concern, bynum doesnt have the impact to be a franchise player. you build championship teams around franchise players, i dont ever see bynum being that type of piece.
