I was just wondering if anyone had news on the workout scheduled for today in Chicago?

Yeah, the Jazz said as soon as Kanter wakes up in the morning, they're going to start the workout.

I should start about 12 hours from now.

The last I heard was that the Jazz were in fact spending June 2/3 with him, so they may have met with him some today. Maybe he interviewed today, works out tomorrow?

The trib tweeted...

Kanter set to work out for Jazz Friday morning in Chicago. Expected to focus on offense — pick-and-roll, pick-and-pop. Likely work w/ guard.

Kanter not expected to focus on defense during workout. ... Chance that he could have another workout in Salt Lake City if all goes well.

Kanter is definitely open to the idea of playing for Jazz. Believes team would be a good fit for his skills.

Here's the latest report on Kanter.

He didn't hurt himself during the workout. But he cursed a little in Turkish.

He only did offensive drills. The Jazz aren't saying anything regarding what they thought of him. Nothing out of the ordinary there.

He's going to do defensive drills later in Salt Lake.

Locke says the Jazz are being especially mum on Kanter knowing that he has value, and by making it seem like they are trying to hide him, they are just increasing the value of the pick in case of a trade.

This is why I trust KOC. It doesnt always seem right at first what he does but then there is always that OH THATS WHY moment. maybe im alone on this feeling, ive seen some KOC hate on this board before....This is going to be an awsome draft to watch. I used to think the Jazz definetly picked at 3 and moved the 12. Now i think we definetly pick Jimmer at 12 and move the 3. Not saying thats what i want its just my gut feeling.

I wouldn't be surprised if the jazz are set on knight and are trying to find any assurance that he'll be on the board farther down than 4.

If he is there at 5, I would think Toronto would grab him, so the only place the jazz could move down too would be 4.

If the jazz were wanting to move down a spot, I'm not sure what Cleveland would offer to move up one. Rest assured though there is insentive for cleveland to move up a spot, if they take Irving at 1, it's essential that they get either Williams or kanter, and I don't think there is any assurance that they will be there at 4. If they decide that knight and walker are the 4th and 5th best players in the draft, they would be stuck drafting the 6th best player with the fourth best pick, and in this draft the drop off between talent tiers could be in between that 4, 5, 6 range.

This is a strange draft to say the least.

True. I think there is a lot of incentive for Toronto to move up to 3, though, too. If Cleveland takes Irving, they will not take Knight. But they might try to package down with, say, Sacramento at 7 if they feel that there is a big dropoff after Knight, anyway. But I like the idea of moving down to 4 or 5 if we decide Knight is our guy. It minimizes his salary number while also giving us another asset we can use in a trade or building the roster.

If we stand pat at 3 and take Knight I will not be happy, though. Whatever the Jazz think, I believe that Kanter is easily the 3rd most valuable prospect in this draft. If we don't find a way to extract that value we're idiots.

What would u ask for from Toronto to move #5 to #3.
We dont really have much assets & I'd assume DeRozan, Davis, Future 1st rounders wont be on the table.
Other then that... I think the roster is open & we have a TPE

I would love to see the Jazz trade this pick to Toronto. I would trade them the 3 AND 12 and Bell for their 5th and next year's first, unprotected.

We use the 6th to draft the BAP. I don't think there are (m)any real game changers in this year's draft. I would rather stockpile for next season, and I have a feeling that the Raptors will still be bottom feeders and in a great draft position this time next year. I'm willing to be patient and go through another devoping year or two, but I think we'll progress more quickly by looking to next year's draft.

We could still see some great improvement next season, as some of our young guys develope. I don't see anyone available after three making a grea impact.

Call me crazy.

So you don't see anyone after three making a great impact and that's a reason to trade down? What am I missing here?

If the Jazz decide they like Knight they might agree to a trade contingent on Toronto getting him at 5. So the Jazz pick Kanter (or whomever) and then after Toronto's pick a trade is announced where the Jazz get a 2nd round pick and dump Bell's contract.

If Knight is there at 5, Raps may just take him and be square with that.
If Raps are higher on Kanter, then the trade with Utah makes sense.

Its unlikely Raps move their future 1st round pick as well.

The gem here would be next year's pick. I don't see any significant difference between 3-5 at all. I don't see any impact player at 12. Thus, the boon in getting next year's pick from Toronto.

The more I think about it, though, the less I see Toronto doing this.

So why exactly do the Jazz do this again? For a player trade exception?

Keep dreaming! You get nothing uless you give the Jazz a valuable future pick (can only be top 5 protected), in addition to this years #5.

The opinion to swap picks with Toronto was brought up by yall.
If Utah wants Knight they will likely have to take him at 3, because if he drops to 5 its likely that Toronto just takes him there.
If Toronto is higher on Kanter than Knight... than its possible that Utah could move down, but as I said Toronto does not have much assets to offer and cant offer anything significant (DeRozan/Davis/Future 1st).

The most likely senario is no picks are swapped and Utah takes their BPA (Knight) at 3, and the draft continues on its merry way.

Why does everyone think the Jazz are so in love with Knight? I haven't read a single report about them showing any more interest in him than any other team out there.

Fixed it for you.

Just to make sure I'm clear, Toronto has nothing meaningful to offer, and in your scenario instead of the Jazz taking Knight at #3, the Jazz trade down and take Knight at #5 just so Toronto can take Kanter at #3.

Sorry but you must be a lawyer, if you can state this kind of rubbish with a straight face.

jazzfan1971 wrote:Non-Jazz fans, just stay away please. I know you all are dying for the Jazz to take Knight at #3 so that Kanter/Williams/Irving falls to your team. I know. But, telling me here won't make it happen. I'm just interested in Jazz fan's opinions.
