Strange to see 24 & 24 in the rafters together

Post#1 » by Mamba Venom » Sun Jun 5, 2011 2:02 am

I thinkk its going to be strange to see #24 and #34 in the rafter together someday. Those 2 numbers never played together but they won three championships together.

32-33-34 retired. 22-24-25 retired.

Thoughts?

Is #8 not going to be retired...?

edit: also, just a thought. they should should retire #8 before kobe retires. then after he does, replace it with #24, and have #8 either stay retired, or 'unofficially' retired aka if some rookie comes into the league gets drafted by the lakers and is like "I want #8" they say "lol pick again"

Kobe will be the only player to have both numbers retired when all said and done. By the end of his career he will have owned every Laker record and has done enough playing under either number.

Why not just add 24+8 and divide by 2= 16(yeah I know its Gasol's number but I don't see him retired here)

If you subtract 8 from 24, you get 16. Also, 2(4) + 8 = 16.

Sixteen makes the most sense to me to retire in Kobe's honor. Solid, outside of the box, thinking.

It may seem like a gimmick ILLMATIC, but they're going to actually do it. They've put #8 off limits to new players.

Are there any players that have had two different #'s retired for the same team?

I disagree that they will retire 2 numbers for Kobe. I think they're just making it off limits just in case they decide to go with #8 over #24... He does have 3 chips with 8, and only 2 with 24

#8 will be a jersey someone can wear in the future only if they get kobes permission/consent.

True DEEP I didn't know they didn't allow 8 to be worn by others, seems like Kobe will have 2 jerseys and a statue
