I think Burks could be a nice player, but with the league trending toward attacking PGs and big SFs I think that 3pt shooting could be more important at the SG spot than ever.

I'm definitely warming up to Burks. I was on the Kemba and Kawhi bandwagon a month ago but I've moved my left cheek to Brandon Knight's bandwagon and my right cheek to Alec Burks' bandwagon. But I don't think BC is too high on him like the other prospects. I notice Bryan likes to give little excerpts on players he really likes and so far he's yet to do that for Burks while he's done that for the other players especially Vesley and Jonas.

We need shot creators - two of the better prospects in this draft who can create shots off the dribble, are Kemba Walker and Alec Burks. And this is especially important if Lawrence Frank is our next coach. Frank is very good at utilizing guys with playmaking skills, all you need to do is look at what he did with Vince Carter and Devin Harris.

I'd imagine Burks would play a James Harden, off-the-bench role here, and if he plays well, I'm sure the DeRozan vs. Burks debates will begin in no time on this board.

You'd keep Demar if you got Burks?

Oh yeah I forgot to add this part too. I'm not a big believer in every lottery pick needs to be a starter because having the BPA is more important for a team's depth, just look at the playoffs. Every playoff team, except for the Heat, have players that come in off the bench with talent level that doesn't drop.

With Burks, I believe he can play spot minutes at the 1 too and one of him or DeMar could slide over to the 3 so he could still get his minutes especially when we're not stacked at the wing positions.

Well, that's the thing. Eventually, we'd probably have to deal one of them, and from an asset collection standpoint, that's a good problem to have. As I mentioned, I'd have Burks come off the bench for a little while, and have DeMar start until Burks proves he's worthy of that role. And if it comes to that, we could deal one of them, and get a pretty nice return.

Why does everyone think we should trade a player because they play the same position? This should only be done if you have a superstar manning that position none of which are DeRozan and Burks. It reminds me of the whole one of Ed Davis or Amir Johnson should be traded debate. We would have good depth for 48 minutes if we keep all these players. It's not like we're loaded at the wing position either so why not keep both?

Don't know if it has been mentioned, but Kemba pulled out of a workout with the Kings. Potential promise from someone?

Edit: NVM. Just seen Eating a Book's post in the Kemba thread.

Kemba working out for Raptors on the 7th and the Pistons on the 8th. Will go up against Alec Burks in Detroit.

It's possible, though I don't know if we've seen anywhere that Knight is coming in Tuesday; just that it's happening this week. Or am I wrong?

I believe Brandon Knight said that he was also coming in this week. As far as we know, that would mean Tuesday.

Well Knight said that his next workout was with the Raptors so I'm assuming it's this week

Sorry, I must have worded my post poorly because I think everyone misunderstood.

I know his workout is this week. I just wasn't sure if it was Tuesday, or they were going to announce another day of workouts -- that's all.

Even if they're both in Tuesday, I don't know that they'll do a competitive workout against one another. I can't see Knight's agent approving that, but who knows.

Minny board seems pretty happy with Kanter at #2. Leaving D.Williams to the Jazz at #3. So unless the Cavs take Knight at #4 (doubt it), we have the choice between Knight and Walker. And while i like Knight more i wouldnt be disappointed with getting Walker.

I'd prefer to keep Stew and give Monte Morris
I'd really prefer to keep Morris and Stew and give the great Killian Hayes and 2nd round picks

With all the talk surrounding the bigs, Knight and Walker, I think we're overlooking a couple of guys that may not warrant consideration at 5 necessarily, but I think could end up being pretty good NBA players, in Alec Burks....and Jimmer Fredette.

I've been intrigued all year with Jimmer Fredette - he is incredibly skilled. And just like Knight and Walker, isn't really what you would call a true PG. But, he has a knack of just creating enough space to get off shots. I think he's one guy, just due to his craftiness and his ability to seemingly get to every spot on the court, that can become a very good PG due to these instincts. Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me to see him get picked by Sacramento, and end up thriving there. I really don't think he's Eddie House like some do, or a smaller J.J. Redick.

Alec Burks is a potential playmaker. He can score, distribute, and get to the FT line. His weakness is shooting, but I think he can get better over time. Also, can be a better defender.

So, if we're not totally enthused with the options available to us at 5, I think it'd be a good idea to trade down. Or, go ahead and take Burks at 5.

How would people feel with taking Biyombo at 5, and getting a later pick to take Fredette? Or, taking Burks at 5, and getting another pick to draft Biyombo if by the off-chance he's still on the board?

Just throwing out scenarios to ponder other than Walker, Knight at PG or Val/Biyombo at 5. Or, just to discuss Fredette :D
