Hoopsworld: Toronto is front-runner for #2 pick

Post#1 » by niaz555 » Mon Jun 6, 2011 3:43 pm

Didn't know if I should post in another topic or not. but anyway

Jason in GA:
Just a thought but wouldn't Derozan and the five for Flynn and the two help both teams? Gives Toronto some front court star power and Minnesota a legit 2, thoughts?
Bill Ingram:
It really would . . .I know the Wolves are exploring a lot of options for trading the #2, and DeRozan is one of the better young shooting guards in the league. He and Rubio could potentially be good for years to come. Derrick Williams would clearly help the Raptors, as well. I've been told by the Wolves that Toronto is the frontrunner for the #2 so far, but there's lots of time for someone else to make an offer Kahn can't refuse.

i think derozan is untradeable but I like being the frontrunner for the #2 pick!

Interesting. I guess they really do like Williams.

DeRozan is a better prospect than Williams and whoever is available at 5 has more value than Flynn IMO.. This trade makes no sense for the Raptors.

that's just a dumb fan proposing derozan and 5th for flynn and 2nd. so no worries. derozans not being traded!

Bill Ingram just said that he has heard that toronto is the frontrunner for the 2nd pick. that doesnt mean we are trading derozaN!

Terrible trade for us. Far as I'm concerned, there are no sure things in this draft after Irving. However, I could see a Ed Davis + 5 for Flynn + 2 as part of a larger comprehensive deal involving Jose, Pekovic and Ridnour.
Something like Ed + Jose + filler(Alabi) + 5 for Pekovic + Flynn + Ridnour + 2

That's a valid point, he Ingram really didn't confirm or deny Derozan's involvement.

Is Ingram a valid source? I know there's a couple guys at Hoopsworld with real sources, but there's a lot of baseless rumours as well.

Not so fast, the bit about Derozan is just pure speculation based on a question from a fan.
But it's pretty clear that #2 is up for grabs.

Minny just has too many offensive minded combo forwars and Derrick Williams seems like the type to give signals to teams like the WOlves or Jazz that he does not want to play there. I would put us in the same category but the guy is working out with Ed Davis and showing up at events with Derozan, I don't think he would mind forming a young nucleus Memphis or OKC style in TO with Demar and Ed.

The question is what can we add to the 5th pick to move up to #2? It will probably have to be a 3 way involving the like of Barbosa, Jose or Bargs.

Yea, but for us to be frontrunners for 2, we must have offered up something substantial.

We'll get the #2 pick using Bargs and then flip the #2 for Gay. Shh, I'm dreaming, don't wake me up.

I think people are misunderstanding whatever limited value there is to this "report."

First, the DeRozan + 5 trade is completely nonsense, suggested by a reader. That's not even the rumour.

The rumour is the fact that Ingram has apparently heard from Minnesota that Toronto is the front-runner for the #2 pick. Nowhere does he say that we're offering DeRozan.

But can Williams play SF? Of course he said he can, but in reality could he guard against Lebron James, like how Shawn Marion did?

Bill never said Derozan is being traded for the #2 spot. He likes the idea of Derozan being paired with Rubio, and that Derrick Williams will be a good fit for the Raps, then said Toronto is in the running for the #2 pick but never said Derozan is part of it. Could be part of a bigger trade. To me, Derozan and Ed Davis are the only untouchables, though technically Barbosa can't be traded until July 1st when he exercises his player option. Bayless anyone? In fact, I don't know if BC will pick Kanter or D Will if we do get the # 2 spot.

I really dont know what we could add outside of (DD or Ed or 1st) to #5 to move up to #3 or #2.
Hence why I'm okay with standing still
