Can he play average PG defense? If he can do that he's already doing enough with the kind of perfect offense he brings. I'm not sure exactly how much difference a very good defensive versus average defensive PG even makes in the NBA. If he's horrific that's one thing, but if he can play average and play good team defense perhaps the Lakers can get by with Calderon. Blake is average himself and the team improves tremendously with him out there over Fisher.

for his salary range I expect Jose to be ALOT better, the next closest opt. we had a chance at was Hinrich, at least he has D to his rep. Only thing Calderon is good at is racking up asst. and thats because the offense is catered to him, he wont get those type of opportunity here unless Kobe relinquish alot of his 1on1. For a supposed "shooter" his 3fg% is quite avg. no better the Fish/Blake on their best years.

That's not really worth mentioning though because acquiring him includes sending out large amounts of salary.

A deal would look like:

TPE+Blake+Walton for Kleiza+Calderon

It's basically the equivalent of signing Calderon for about 4m for 3 years and swapping Kleiza-Blake. I think that's fair value. Hinrich's D has slipped quite a bit though, I really don't think he's all that impressive after his injuries. Calderon might still get those assists just with how easy it is here to rack those up.

I really think he's ideal in an off guard to Kobe as well as primary ball-handler role and one of his greatest skills is his IQ. He WILL feed the post constantly. One of the best defensive traits of a PG is making sure a play starts on the inside. That by itself will improve the defense by leaps and bounds. It's something Fisher has failed to do for years. Even against Chicago with Derrick Rose, the Heat put Bibby out there.

I just think it's so important to have a PG with a high B-Ball IQ.

this is even worse trade then just gettin Calderon....you're bringing in long overpaid contracts for sub-ar talents.....the attributes you are looking for, Blake already does, he does constanty feed the post and nothing else. Blake always looks for the bigs 1st, its the other dumb bench guys who dont. The Heat can use Bibby out there because he is switched onto Bogans who does nothing, while James checks Rose, so if that were us who are switching onto Rose, Kobe? Kobe has lost his steps years ago now, he'll have spurts where he can check them but would total eliminate his offense, like what happened in gm 2 against NOH, unlike Mia we dont have another elite perimiter guy like Wade to take over the offense, Pau gets turned away with physical play and Bynum, well he thinks he's the ish but as the game progressive he gets weaker/softer with his post play.

Blake can't run really run the P and R though and create. Bibby guarded Rose quite a bit when he was out there. The contracts are not much worse at all. They amount to maybe 10m more for a few years of better players.

^^yea Bibby was guarding Rose, he was having a field day on him.....as for better talent, Jose is not 2x the player blake is based on his salary....look at their stat comparison when Blake was a starter, its not 2x better or much of any at all....as for Kleiza I dont know what to tell you if you think dude is a "talent" unless your definition of talent is chucking at horrible percentage's a talent, dude is shooting 29% from 3's, some talent and his overall fg % is just as bad, he might avg. 11/gm but he takes 11 shots to get it.

You know who is another guy that brings all of the traits we're looking for? Dragic. Any way the Lakers can give some future pick to get him? He's a guy just waiting to get a starting nod and possibly explode into one of the better PGs.

being a RFA, your current team can match any offer other teams will pursue you with and they're ceiling will only be as high as your current team is willing/able to offer you. am I getting this right?

Yes under the current CBA but this may change. I live in AZ and it does not appear the Suns will match a full MLE for Brooks, if there is an MLE under the new CBA.

I have a feeling this is going to be taken away, if merely for the fact it would help teams retain their marginal role-players and also prevent these types of players from being overpaid, even though its merely 6mill/yr all the way up to 8 or 9, some players get MLE offers because opposing teams want to force the original team to think bout matching offers even though said players didn't really warrant such a salary.

It would be to the Lakers' benefit if it was. New Orleans must acquire a SG for example and needs an exception to do so. I could see them trading Jack to L.A. for a TPE just so that they can fill that need or perhaps Blake+TPE to New Orleans for Jack.

you can't combine tpe with a player....it would need to be 2 seperate trades, i.e Blake for nothing than tpe for Jack. Anyways I like the Dragic idea, he has solid handles his shot is somewhat inconsistent though and his D is lacking but he is quick enough on O to get to the basket on his own w/screens so he could brake down the D more often by penetrating any of our current PG.

That's right that's exactly what it is except that it's a part of the same deal as far as cap numbers go. It can work though. Same idea with Chicago and C.J. Watson who I've never even seen mentioned. He's definitely a scorer who can pass well enough and defends very well.

Denver might offer Felton+22+8m TPE+K-Mart S and T for Odom+TPE.

I'd take that, sign Rashard Lewis after amnesty cuts, and draft another big man to make up for Odom at 22.

nice, Id take Felton/Kmart for Odom.....KMart can do all the intangible of Odom minus the handles but he'll give us another one of those nasty players like Artest/Barnes. But not sure if Den would be interested.

The pick I don't know but the K-Mart part is simple. We'd need to sign another backup though with the MLE, then add a SG via the draft.

Out of the box solution. Sign K-Mart, then trade Odom for a pick which we can send for Steve Nash.

signing a backup big who isnt 192598325897 years old is a must this off season imo. we need someone who can relieve our bigs and reduce their minutes.

id really like kmart for part of the MLE. no need to trade for him, as he will be a free agent.

You just said we need to sign a big who isn't 192598325897 years old but you then say we should sign -Mart who is 198965876981 years old, hahahahaha.

The reason we trade for him is because we can get Felton with him and give him a bit more than half the MLE in a re-sign but still have our full MLE to spend.

Denver would do a Felton, K-Mart for Odom deal in a heartbeat, a hearbeat!

I'd want to throw Walton into that though and that may give them pause.

The idea of just signing K-Mart and then trading Odom for a pick which we could use, along with the tpe to get Nash ... that ain't gonna happen ... Phoenix is not trading Nash to us and that is fine by me .... ship him to the Raptors!

With the Lakers interest in Goudelock you can probably presume that they would have interest in Boobie Gibson as well especially off the bench with Lamar.

You know that could be ugly for opposing teams if you have a constant P and R threat with Kobe-Gasol while your C Bynum and SF Artest are constantly freeing up Gibson for open shots.

Any large PGs available in FA this year?
