Bad assumption on all Jimmerites hating Knight. I love Jimmer, but I'm debating back and forth whether I like Knight or Kanter better at #3 (assuming Williams or Irving doesn't drop and we don't fall in love with someone else like Vesely). If the Jazz management says Knight is BPA (and it may be easier to assess him than Kanter), then I'm fine with taking Knight and passing on Jimmer at the 12. I'm just not sure I've been sold on Knight's potential yet and if he really can be an all-star point guard in the future.

Why does drafting Knight mean the Jazz have to pass on Jimmer?

No reason Mr. Kahn.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

I think you can rule out him facilitating the entire team, very few PGs do that (the near 10 dimes a year guys, some exceptional backups like Maynor). We'll need to pair him with at least another distributor (like hayward) or have someone else who can draw double teams in isolation. I think he can be a really good fit even if he only get's around 5 dimes, as long as he learns to keep turnovers down and doesn't become a black hole otherwise (like Tyreke Evans-style 5 dimes).

What a stupid theory about the "Jimmerites". I'm a "Jimmerite" and I think I've been pretty darn nice and optimistic about Knight in this thread. I would rather take Knight than Kanter. I'll watch Jimmer no matter who he plays for, it would be convenient if it were for the Jazz, but it wouldn't matter. I want the Jazz to do what's right for them. Get off your high horse...

I'm not sure Knight should be our pick, but I'm not sure Kanter should be either. I have to say that I don't care if Knight is not really what people call a true PG. If he can defend, knock down shots and set up the offense, kinda like Billups, he'd be a great PG for us.

I'll refer you to this thread to see my arguments about why I like Knight. I think it is between him and Kanter at #3.

I'm pretty torn on whether I want the Jazz to pick Kanter or Knight, but when you combine the recent DX scouting reports about Kanter's lack of effort and defense with the fact that we already have a solid frontcourt, I'm probably leaning towards Knight at the moment, though that could change.

Knight obviously has some things to work on in terms of his ability to run a team from the point guard position, but I think this would be a pretty good place for him to do that for a few reasons. First, assuming we can keep Watson, he'll have two solid mentors at his position. Watson's a good guy to learn from as far as how to run a team, get teammates involved and play defense, while Harris is a great guy to learn from as far as how to penetrate and draw fouls (which I've heard is another thing Knight needs to improve on). With those guys on the roster, there'd be no need to rush Knight in to more minutes than he can handle; he could get spot minutes at both guard positions, but wouldn't have too much PG responsibility right away.

The other thing that I think could really help Knight is that Hayward can handle the ball and basically run the point at times. Knight's off-ball game seems pretty advanced for his age and playing alongside Hayward (or Watson, Harris or even C.J.) would allow him to do some of that. If Burks slides to the 12th pick and we drafted him, that'd give us another wing who can share ballhandling duties. When you also factor in how good our system (even if it changes a bit) is for producing looks for guys who know how to use screens, I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong with the fact that Knight is a scorer as well as a PG.

I guess I haven't really explained why Knight would be a good pick so much as why this could be a good spot for him, so I'll try and do that now. With his youth, shooting and scoring ability, intelligence, character, leadership, solid athleticism and size, I think Knight's going to end up being a very good and very versatile starting point guard who can contribute on both ends, even if takes him a while to get to that level. All of the indications are that he's the type of guy who will work hard to improve what he needs to improve and, like Locke and others have said, I think all of his weaknesses are things that he can improve, if not erase.

If we're looking for a guy who can run a team and play 30+ minutes a night from day one, Knight's probably not that guy, but, with Harris and Watson on board to hold down the fort until he's ready, we don't need him to be. Beyond that, he just seems like a great fit for the Jazz's culture, system and roster. I'd be very happy if he was our pick.
