Re: Arsenal FC
As mentioned in the Copa America thread, we've not released Vela for the tournament. His agent has said there's no transfer in the works and that Vela's been told to report at pre-season training.
Have to say I'm glad, he's shown nothing yet but if we go to 442 he'll finally get the chance to play centrally.

Re: Arsenal FC
Just a thought:
Wenger could again copy Barca's latest formation and just move RVP into the hole.
---Walcott----Nasri------
-----------RVP-------------
Wilshere-Song-Ramsey-
Baines-TV5-DJ20-Sagna
--------Szczesny----------
Obviously RVP and Messi are different players so it'd look different to theirs IRL.

Re: Arsenal FC
I'm iffy on Vela, he's certainly very skilled, but has only produced in spurts when given the chance. I agree going to a 4-4-2 would give him much more of a chance to show his stuff though. Hopefully he can make it with the club, but I'm not sure. He badly needs to play, and that probably won't happen here.

Re: Arsenal FC
"I can promise that there won't be another season like this one," Bendtner told sporten.dk.
"I have decided 100 per cent that I must leave Arsenal.
"I've considered this for a long time and was quite clear when I arrived at my decision.
"I'm quite calm and confident that I'll be fine at a new club."
Sweet

Yeah, that's what I keep thinking.
However, Navas, I think, is far better than David Silva, who's doing alright with Man City.
I don't think so. Silva is more technically gifted and plays multiple positions. Navas would be an old fashioned English winger that hugs the touchline, has pace and will keep delivering crosses.

Re: Arsenal FC
from the Avoiding the Drop blog's reader poll:
The Match of the Year: Newcastle United 4 v. Arsenal 4
A lot of matches received a shout in this category, but only one got more than one vote. This match- in addition to being an absolute cracker of a match showed us two things. First, it showed that newly-promoted Newcastle had both the grit and the ability to remain in the Premier League for at least one more season. As for the second thing that the match showed us, I’ll let commenter Martin sum it up for us, it was a match that showed “the world that the Gunners couldn’t close and that it was all pretending from that point on.” Indeed.
ouch

Re: Arsenal FC
Kind of disappointed to see Coquelin named in the France squad for the U-20 World Cup. It's great that he's being recognized, but he'll miss the preseason, and probably his best chance of pushing for a first team spot in the coming year.
Both Gilles Sunu, and Ignasi Miquel were named for their countries as well, but they had zero shot of making the team this year anyway.

Re: Arsenal FC
Vela was denied the chance to play for Mexico this summer. It'll be nice for him to finally have a preseason with the team. Time to find out if he's a viable option for that left wing spot or if he'd be better off centrally in a 442.
I'm sorry I haven't been funny. I am not a comedian. I am Lenny Bruce.

Re: Arsenal FC
Would Neymar or Hazard be a fit in this Arsenal team?
I think Arsenal needs a striker and some guys with a huge upside if Fabregas is leaving. I'm not sold on Wilshere, Ramsey or Nasri yet.
Kiessling, Barrios, Damião, Higuain... Would be nice.

All of them would fit; can't see Higuain or Neymar happening.

trophies > likeable players. At this stage I don't care if we get Adebayor back as long as we win the league.

Re: Arsenal FC
Ivan Gazidis comments from the Q&A with the shareholders.
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/928105/arsenal-chief-executive-ivan-gazidis-warns-against-over-reaction?cc=5901
"Coming off the end of the season, I share with you a sense of profound disappointment," he said. "We had a season that promised a great deal and looked like it could turn into a very special one but in the end a familiar story began to tell itself. I understand the feelings that we all felt.
"It is very clear we had some shortcomings and in this close season we are going to see some turnover of players. Some new signings will be coming in and some of our existing squad will be going out.
"As Arsene has said, it will be a busy close season for the club, but also it is important to recognise that it has not been a disaster. We have a young squad and we don't want to throw the baby out with the bathwater.
"The trick will be identify which parts to keep and which parts to turn over - and we will do that within our financial capabilities."
With Stan Kroenke now owning 66.64% of the club, there has been talk of a change in emphasis in the Arsenal business model, but Gazidis has moved to assuage fears that he could plunge the club into debt.
"With respect to Stan, we have someone who understands the club," he said. "He has grown to love Arsenal but he will remain in the background. This is not somebody who steps forward and looks for a public profile."
He added: "The confirmations that Mr Kroenke gave in relation to his offer were, one, that he supports the self-sustainable business model of the club, and secondly that the offer would not be funded by debt against the club or dependent on Arsenal's business.
"Those were two significant commitments and confirmations that he made."
