I like him a lot, but I just don't see him ever being the starting center on a good playoff team. Thus, I'm ready to send him away.
Could we follow up with a 6 and 18 for 4 trade and get Kanter?
Kanter and Williams strike me as a horrible pairing defensively. Each might be decent if paired with the right guy, but together I'm seeing an outright fiasco.
Well, this is a fair point. I don't love Williams on defense as a 3 or a 4, and I don't love Kanter as a 4 or a 5. I think the best defensive lineup here would be Kanter defending at 4, Williams at 3, and a true defensive center at 5. Still, Kanter, Williams, Wall, Young, and a defensive center don't exactly make an intimidating defensive lineup on paper. That said, defensively, I'm not sure the Heat are that intimidating on paper.
On the flip side however, Kanter, Williams, Wall and Young should be able to score with the best of them. Not to mention, a team featuring Kanter, Williams, Wall, Young, and a ton of cap space, should be extremely tempting for big time free agents like Dwight Howard.
For the record, I think the above scenario is a pipe dream. I think we'd be much more likely to take Williams at 2, and JV or Biyombo at 6. I have to say, I like the combination of Derrick Williams and Jonas or Bismack better than the combination of JaVale and Leonard or Vesely. Not to mention we would be drastically improving our team basketball IQ, and lowering the number of players on our team with gay French nicknames. Win, win, win.
