Chad Ford's Mock Draft 4.0

Post#1 » by spoonhoops » Thu Jun 9, 2011 3:32 am

Call Chad Ford what you want, but I like what he has to show for the Jazz in his latest mock. I am torn over Knight and Kanter. The Jazz must definitely take BPA there. I believe we are all in agreeance there. I would like to see them take singleton at 12 though so we can improve our team defense.

1. Cleveland - Kyrie Irving
2. Minnesota - Derrick Williams
3. Utah - Brandon Knight
4. Cleveland - Enes Kanter
5. Toronto - Jan Vesely
6. Washington - Kawhi Leonard
7. Sacramento - Kemba Walker
8. Detroit - Jonas Valanciunas
9. Charlotte - Marcus Morris
10. Milwaukee - Alec Burks
11. Golden State - Klay Thompson
12. Utah - Chris Singleton
13. Phoenix - Tristan Thompson
14. Houston - Bismack Biyombo
15. Indiana - Jimmer Fredette
16. Philadelphia - Jordan Hamilton
17. New York - Josh Selby
18. Washington - Marshon Brooks
19. Charlotte - Markieff Morris
20. Minnesota - Donatas Motiejunas
21. Portland - Kenneth Faried
22. Denver - Tobias Harris
23. Houston - Nikolas Vucevic
24. Oklahoma City - Nikola Mirotic
25. Boston - JaJuan Johnson
26. Dallas - Davis Bertans
27. New Jersey - Reggie Jackson
28. Chicago - Justin Harper
29. San Antonio - Jeremy Tyler
30. Chicago - Charles Jenkins

I will be absolutely stunned if the Jazz take Brandon Knight at #3. He is just not that caliber IMHO.

Regardless of my opinion, why and the heck would they take knight at #3 when they could just as easily take him at #6.

4. No way Cleveland takes Knight if they take Kyrie at #1.
5. Toronto is going to take Vesely

So would Washington give up #6 and #18 for #3? Probably.

Chad Ford isn't much on evaluating talent. He's an inside source guy which means that only his final draft posted just a little before going live has any accuracy to it.

Here are a few examples. Ford's pick for the Jazz are listed first and then who the Jazz actually took follows. In almost every case he wasn't even close.

2004 Serget Monya Rafael Araujo Kris Humphries K. Humphries, K. Synder, Podkolzine (traded to Dallas)
2005 Fran Vasquez Deron Williams
2006 Mouhamed Saer Sene Ronnie Brewer
2007 Derrick Byars Morris Almond
2008 Roy Hibert Kosta Koufos
2009 Tyler Hansbrough Erick Maynor
2010 Greg Monroe Gordon Hayward

I'll pass on Chad Ford's mock drafts. Anyway if he turned out to be right this one time, the Jazz would get a C- for their picks and zero help next year.

Why would Toronto pass on Knight if he is there at 5? I think they'd be a huge candidate to take him, and the Jazz would be screwed by not getting the guy they wanted if indeed Knight is who they want.

Honestly, at 12, I just as much expect the Jazz to take someone completely out of the blue as I do them taking any of the names we've heard mentioned i.e. Singleton, Fredette, Burks or Thompson. The Jazz always tend to draft names that we aren't hearing about. I could very easily see the Jazz reaching for a guy like Tobias Harris or Kenneth Faried randomly.

If they reach at 12 I really have a feeling it is for Honeycutt.

Honeycutt is intriguing, I could see the Jazz liking him if they think he could add some weight and become a consistent shooter.

Apparently I can't comment because I'm a Jimmer fan, but I would be perfectly happy with this draft. I like Knight better than Kanter at this point, he seems like less of a risk, and at #3, I don't want a risky pick. Singleton sounds like a nice defensive player. Since the draft history of that pick is so poor, I think it would be good to pick someone that you know has a very good NBA skill and hope they can develop the rest of their game, rather than looking at pure potential. Singleton seems to fit that mold defensively.

You should apply at ESPN if you know who everyone is going to take...

were you stunned last year when the Jazz took Hayward at 9? I was. Ha my wife came home and asked me what was wrong because i was so shocked. When has anyone ever not been surprised after the Jazz pick? They dont worry about popular opinion. they dont come on this site to find out what you or I think (thank goodness). They do what they think is best. whether that is knight or kanter or even someone we never heard of.

So why would they pick knight at 3? if they want him and have no idea whether he will be there at 6 its too big of a risk. Or Maybe no one wants to move up? i dont think it is as easy as you might think...

Everyone, myself included, needs to chill and not act like we know who the best player is or which player each team is going to take. Just relax, state our "opinion" as an opinion and we can all enjoy speculating together.

Somehow I doubt Biyombo drops that far.

I also think Phoenix is taking Fredette at 13 if he is still there. He is the perfect pick for them.

I'm also thinking Montiejuans might be the guy for the Jazz at 12. DX reported that the Jazz loved him if they stayed at the #6 spot so if he is there at #12 why wouldn't they take him?

Alas, no mock draft is ever perfect...it just depends on personal opinion. I can't say that I would be mad if that's how the Jazz drafted.

If Biyombo is available at 12 I believe the Jazz would snag him.

I was pretty upset when the Jazz drafted Hayward last year because I thought there were better prospects out there like Paul George, Ed Davis, etc. However this draft I am totally open to whoever the Jazz draft as long as they've done their homework. Faried would be a huge stretch, but would be an interesting prospect. Would that mean that Milsap's days would be numbered?

I have a better idea. Let's just have forum members vote on every move/decision that the Jazz need to make and go with the majority rule. Not.

woodstock17 wrote:were you stunned last year when the Jazz took Hayward at 9?

I was one of the few people in the Energy Solutions Arena (almost called it the Delta Center) who was cheering, and was cheering loudly. Hayward was my top pick for the Jazz. I was also very vocal in the forum about the Jazz re-signing Wesley Mathews and caught major flack for it (uhhmmm Bat).

We are clearly at a disadvantage, because we don't get to see the players. And personality and character are huge, and none of us have a clue about that. That being said, I think it is ok for me to continue to express my opinion in the manner that I have, without "acting like I know who the best player is."

For me, this is the most I have ever engaged in a draft, and I am enjoying "speculating together," and I'm sorry if you don't feel the same about my thoughts. ideas, and contributions.

retiredcoach, it's pretty unfair to blast Ford to predicting the Jazz's picks wrong when he's projecting a month before the draft on his first mock. Especially since all of those guys ended up going before the Jazz or the Jazz traded into another tier of players. I think the Jazz probably would have taken Monroe/Hibbert/Psycho T if those guys were on the board. Maybe even Saer Sene as well.

Share your opinion and speculation all you want. I have no problem with that; that is what these forums are for. Just be careful when you preach your opinion as fact and completely disregard everyone else's opinion because it does not match your own.

Chad's first four are cool to me but I don't think Jonas falls past toronto unless his buyout situation is a problem which I dont think it is. He's everything they are looking for. He's european and a legit center. I like him next to bargs even if I don't like bargs that much.

And no way in this **** green and beautiful earth will Biyombo get past Detroit. No way will they miss the chance to put him and monroe in the same front court. Together they will, and I mean will, be one if not the most dominant defensive bigman tandums ever. Yes they both look that good. Of course thats if someone doesn't snatch him up eairlier.

As for us, Knight is out guys at #3 and I would take the flyer on Jordan Hamilton at #12. I think he can develop into a 20+ pt scorer in this league which is what we need, he has that potential. Tho if we can get a late first round pick on the low, I would pick up Singleton also.

As for Hayward, I hated the pick, still hate the pick (yes I saw his late season games, still not impressed) and I'm willing to bet anything that almost all of you will be calling for him to be traded by feburary next year when he proves to be nothing more than a poor mans mike miller (not that its bad but we need better from the #9 pick).

No one blasted Chad Ford. He's a decent sport's journalist. I like reading his articles but I don't pay much attention to his mock drafts because he's not that accurate in his predictions, neither the draft position by player nor the team picks. He relies on inside information, which isn't usually any good until a hour before the draft. Then his accuracy improves a little because he is being given the picks.

Sure the Jazz might have taken Monroe or Hibbert if they had been on the board. They weren't on the board so their draft position projections weren't right either. One of the many problems with mock drafts. All of them.

I like Draftexpress for player analysis and writeups. Chad Ford's rumor and team feedback stories are fun to read even if they're not always on the money.

Drafts are too unpredictable for mocks to be any value.

No matter when the season starts, Hayward and Millsap will be the two players in the best shape and both will be ready to play.

In addition, both will have polished and expanded their game more than anyone else.

Reap, it's a good thing you don't have to be impressed for the Jazz to keep Hayward. I doubt he will ever be able to do that.

One year I correctly predicted that the Jazz would take Raul Lopez and won the right to call myself "draft expert" for the year on that message board. The only reason I picked him over all the other names being kicked around was some article I read said the Jazz liked him and I didn't want to go with the same pick as everyone else. Yeah, in other words I pulled that one out of my @#$.

Its never happened since and I don't pretend to a) have some special ability to analyze players based on internet articles and highlight youtube videos or b) understand the team needs/wants/desires enough to know what they are going to do on draft day.

And no, I don't believe any of the rest of you have these special skills either. :naaa:
Its fun to guess, wonder, and speculate though.
