i still hope against hope that it's biyombo that is good enough to warrant our selection. he's the one that i dream can catalyze our defense and finish at the rim on offense.
he might not be that good but i sure as hell hope he is. does James Johnson/Amir/Davis/Biyombo not look like a decent defensive core?
If you have a very good defensive core without offense, then you need a great passer to get those involved. Neither DeRozan nor Bayless can provide that playmaking skill, and they are unlikely to be a pass-first players. I think you only need two of Amir/Davis/Bismack, then you need an offensive threat for some situation (down by 2, you need a scoring big who can create for himself or demand a defender without cheating?)
bargnani could be retained as he actually bring good size to the mix, to go with his scoring.
nice similarities to the championship Pistons group, if all went well.
Bargnani or not, I see Amir and Bismack are too similar. If Amir can improve his offense in face up and shooting, then I would like to keep him. However, he will be too similar to Davis as well.
I think having Bismack is great, but if we can get someone with good postup skill (other than Kleiza at the 3), we should be better.
Bismack - man defense, help defense, shot blocking
Davis - shooting, help defense, shot blocking
Amir - face up, man defense, help defense
Bargnani - shooting, offensive threat, man defense
Someone - post up, man defense, help defense
So you can see if we acquire Someone, then the Amir/Davis/Bismack might be too much focus on defense.
As for shot blocking, if we are keeping James Johnson, he can provide the help defense and shot blocking. If we draft Barnes next year and play him at SF, then extra shot blocker would be useful.
Ideal:
(Bismack)-(Kanter)-James Johnson
