I can't believe there are over 1500 players drafted each year...seems like overkill.

It is, to some extent...hence why you'll see things like the Rangers and Astros drafting paralyzed kids (which is a great gesture).

However, if you're the Jays and have three short-season teams to fill, it's kinda necessary; they have a fair number of kids in extended spring training, but they also need probably 40 or more players to fill out those rosters.

Awesome. We should actually get to see him pitch this year.

Yeah... it's too bad that most of the other early round guys who could go higher than slot will probably not be officially announced until the last hour.

Regardless if there is a hard slotting system or not next year, the signing period needs to be dramatically reduced so that these kids can actually get some playing time after the draft, as opposed to waiting almost a year.

This policy of Selig's of holding off official announcements of over slot signings until the last hour is ridiculous.

The one upshot (and it's a very small one, because the policy is entirely idiotic) is that we know that Musgrove has signed at slot or below slot. So, probably around $750-800k.

So if the Jays agreed to a large bonus with Norris today it won't be announced until August?

Nope. Large over-slot bonuses are held from being made official until late for fear of them influencing other draftees.

Officially, yeah; in reality, because everyone knows what above-slot bonuses are coming down the pipe long before, the primary accomplishment is to allow Bud to stick it to the teams that don`t stick to his slotting recommendations.

It is kinda funny... MLB assumes agents can't remember a year ago.

That one fits right along side the senile commish.

Seriously, how can this man still be the head ( or perhaps figurehead is more suitable in this case ) of a major professional sporting league when he is the same guy who had to look at his cue cards not once but twice mid sentence to say that Joe freakin Torre was going to be leading the supplemental round Monday night.

edit... although with respect to vindictive specifically, remember, this is the same guy who launched a personal crusade against one of the greatest hitters this sport has ever seen, clean or not, just to cover up his own failings in controlling baseball's PED problem.

Selig should have been the poster boy for baseball's PED issues from the get-go, not Bonds.

28th round pick, JUCO SS Chino Vega (Jorge Vega-Rosado) has apparently been offered $200k and will sign tomorrow.

Also will be playing in Vancouver this year.

Didn't think he'd get that much money as I can't really find much on the guy and he wasn't on PG or BA's Florida preview.

that's gotta be some sort of a record for a 28th rounder, if we're throwing that much money that late then we might be hitting that 20 million mark.

Return to Toronto Blue Jays
