Re: NBA Finals Thread: Mavericks vs. Heat
The Dallas Mavericks did what they did to win the game last night, and I'm not going to take anything away from them. However, Dallas' defense isn't really stopping LeBron James. The Heat have LeBron playing 44.4 minutes per game in the Finals through 5 games while carrying the duties of scoring the basketball from the perimeter and post, playmaking for his teammates, rebounding, and checking/chasing the Mavericks' best wing player in Jason Terry. That's their STAR offensive AND defensive player. Yeah, expectations are high, but they should be reasonable and understandable at the same time.
To refer to Too Late Crew's post, the Heat have 3 PGs in Bibby, Chalmers, and House who are all subpar ball handlers that can't bring the ball up when Barea/Kidd pressure them nor can they run a simple pick-and-roll which the Mavericks have had trouble defending. You have LeBron James handling the duties of a PG practically to fill the hole. And if last night showed anything, the Heat need their bigs to roll because LeBron has done an amazing job threading the needle whenever the Mavs would overhelp or hedging on the pick-and-roll. In addition, the Heat have no reliable post option to score in the paint, and their strategy is using LeBron James and Dwayne Wade breaking down the defense from 23-feet out and attacking to put up points in the paint where they exert tons of energy. And you have LeBron at times playing his back behind to the basket. So, you have a player that's expected to playmake and score from perimeter AND low block which is going to take a huge toll on his stamina.
It's the fatigue that's really affecting LeBron to do what he normally does offensively. LeBron does need to start playing better in the fourth quarter without a doubt, but he really needs Bosh to show up for the second half much like he did in the Chicago series. That happens, LeBron playing like he did in the clutch against Chicago will likely happen.

LeBron is stopping LeBron. He hasn't shown he has the eye of the tiger like the greats of NBA history had. He doesn't will a team to win on his own like MJ, Magic, Bird and even guys like Kobe. He just doesn't have "it" yet at this stage in his career.

Maybe lebron can take a few minutes to relax while he floats down the lazy river made of your tears.

A bum asks Lebron for a dollar but lebron only gives him 75 cents. The bum asked "where's the rest?" Lebron responded " I don't have a 4th quarter".

People need to start giving credit to Dallas where it's needed. Is LeBron stopping LeBron? Sure, but does Dallas not have a part in influencing that? LeBron has been unable to time and time again to break through the Mavericks zone defense. You don't think his loss of confidence throughout the series is due to Dallas having LeBron play exactly into their hands? These are just starting to sound like Bargnani excuses.

The avg for a player playing 44+ minutes is 18ppg. LBJ is avg 17 this series playing 44+ minutes. Food for thought. Dallas is the better team, the heat have more stars.

LeBron's production is just front-loaded. You need to see his girl for the back end.

He just lacks the "Fire". He's a tremendous athlete, and skilled player. But what Jordan, Kobe, Bird, Magic had... he doesn't, and I am not talking about rings. When the game doesn't go his way he tends to hang his head and pout. He doesn't take the team on his shoulders. He slumps his shoulders and blames his teammates. Trust me when the Mavs lwin this, it won't be Bron's fault. It will be Bosh's. It will be Bibby's. It will be Miller's.
