Yes, I clearly read your post because I quoted it and directly addressed exactly what you said. I simply felt that what you said didn't many any sense.

It sounded like you were simply trying to pass the source of the malware off to someone's avatar and didn't really want to take any of the blame.

Please tell me how it would be someone's avatar when the malware infected multiple computers I used all in precisely the following way:

1) I typed in realgm.com into the address bar and was brought to the home page.
2) I clicked on "Forums" on the upper right hand corner of the home page and was brought to the page that lists all of the forums.
3) I clicked on "Off Topic" on the upper right hand corner of that page and was brought to a "page that asks for your username and password".
4) This is precisely when the malware popped up onto all of the computers that I have tried which have all gotten infected.

Question: How would it be someone's avatar as the source of the malware when I WAS NEVER ON A PAGE WHICH HAD PEOPLE'S AVATARS DISPLAYED EACH TIME THE MALWARE POPPED UP? That is why what you said never made any sense. If you had read my post, it is pretty obvious that the malware originated from one of the ads that would have been present on one of the realgm pages that I visited as outline in my account, and not in someone's avatar as you had suggested.

Thank you.

It might be an Ad, or it more likely might be someone's Avatar. Unfortunately we can't limit Avatar/SIG hosting sources yet.

But please voice your current issues with this malware in the link above.

Thanks,
--Mags :)

1st of all, please cut the 'tude. All we've been trying to do here is help you. No need to be a "you know what" about it.

2nd, Avatar's and SIGs that are hosted on compromised sites have been the source of MANY issues here on RealGM before.

3rd. I also said it MIGHT be an Ad. Which will show up regardless of whether you're logged in or not. I can't directly suggest what to get to block said Ads (being a Global Mod and all), but you get the idea. ;)

Thanks,
--Mags

I feel that we're getting side-tracked here: the onus is on the admin and global mods to ensure that this site is safe and resolve any issues promptly. On the other hand, we should always be well protected when going online (esp at work).

I cleared this virus the other day. Vista machine. System restore did not work. It wouldn't run. RKILL however worked like a charm. RKILL, then run Malwarebytes.

One thing I believe is that RKILL did not appear to be doing anything, until I ran it by right clicking and "run as administrator". Then I tried Malwarebytes and it also didn't work. Then I realized I had to right-click Malwarebytes, too and "run as administrator".

except that it interferes with some of the things i run at work :(

It's been a problem for a couple years. I don't understand why they don't just ban avatars if that's the issue. Yes, Avatars are nice and useful to identify a poster, but I think everyone would trade that for computer security...

Got hit with this two days ago.

Had to go into safe mode w/ cmd prompt. Couldn't system restore.
Major pain in the a$$ to fix. Took 5+ hours to find/remove/fix everything.

Complaint from a user. Not sure what to do with it.

Lately when i post I get a Norton message saying they blocked an "attack" by the referenced attacker. I'm sure that I'm not the only one.

What's up?

Thanks.

The referenced attacker was Blackhole Toolkit Website 5.
