Spencer Hawes and Marreese Speights...

Post#1 » by 76ersxMVP » Sun Jun 12, 2011 4:57 am

Do they have any big upside to them left especially on D..? OR are they destined to be bench players? Both are currently 23 yrs old, turning 24.

None. Just bench players.

Both are lazy players that I want out from the team.

Don't know if calling them lazy is fair. Both demonstrate great passion for what they do...they just have limitations. Hawes actually can be a serviceable big man. Love his interior passing and ability to stretch the floor. Rebounding, defense, and toughness are a concern, but again, he could be nice playing 10-15 minutes a night. Speights...unless he suddenly develops a high basketball IQ...probably won't be able to contribute much.

Hawes has a lack of talent. Speights has a lack of will. Both of those will keep you from being a starting player in the league for long. Bench Guys.

Well, the first step on the road to being a competent ball player would be to hit the weight room and add some badly needed upper and lower body strength.

Both of those guys look like ass and it shows on the court.

I don't care what anyone says, in the weeks leading up to Speights' MCL sprain, he was one of the best players on our team. Ever since he came back from that, he's been ass in every aspect.

I could see Hawes having a Rasho Nesterovic type career. A starter that nobody is happy about.

Speights? I think his potential is Drew Gooden.

I want neither on my team. Hawes would be my 3rd string white center that plays 1 time every 10 games in mop up time. Speights is just not a player in this league.

My take with their comparison:
Speights: Warrick
Hawes: Chris Mihm

Yeah, him and Lou were the 2 that actually benefit from Eddie Jordan's "coaching" during that period. But I'd argue he pick up his "shooting at least 15ft or above from the rim" habit during that time as well...I think his 2nd year playing under Jordan completely neglect his focus on the defensive end.

Speaking of this combo... could someone explain to me why last season Hawes played twice as many minutes as Speights?

Speights, on the right team, could be a 15-7 guy. Obviously, that team won't be very good, but Speights can put up those stats nonetheless.

My respect for Speights is up there with my respect for Heidi Montag. I wish that I never saw Speights play or warm-up. He has a ton of potential but will never unlock it because he's a lazy player. I don't know what else to say about Speights except for my blinding hate for him.

I have much more respect for Hawes. Sure, neither player is anything more than a bench player on an average team, but at least Hawes shows some kind of hustle and motivation to succeed.

If you took Speights natural talent and injected it into Hawes then you'd have yourself a hell of a big man. Unfortunately both are polar opposites. Speights is a physical beast in the mold of Zach Randolph yet he plays with no heart, no emotion, and no brain. Spencer Hawes is stiff twig but plays hard, and wants to be a good player. Either way if this mutation morph was to happen we would still have a horrible defensive player because neither one of them could guard a corpse.

Drew Gooden is a solid rebounder.....Speights is awful.
