That's a key for the Wiz. Jimmer going before 12 forces Utah's hand at #3; they pretty much have to take a guard there, because they can't rely on Jimmer being there at 12.

I have very little faith in Givony's mocking skills at this point. As doc pointed out, he's so up the asses of the NBA execs (trying to get a job?) that I think they're playing him with BS info. He doesn't cover the league on a regular basis like Ford, Aldridge, etc -- he covers prospects. He's a scout.

Ford crushed him last year, so we'll see.

How about a Monty Hall Special?

Step 1: Wiz trade #6 to the Bobcats for #9 & #19
Step 2: Wiz trade McGee & #9 to the Jazz for #3 and #12

Wiz end up with #3, #12, #18, & #19

Jazz get McGee & Jimmer (can't really see him going before #9)
Bobcats get Kemba

Wiz take Kanter, Singleton (#12), Jeremy Tyler (#18), Marshon Brooks (#19), and Mirotic (#34)

Of course it'd never happen, and would totally rebuild the team as the youngest, well, maybe ever. But there are a lot of guys to like in this draft, I hope we get a few of them.

I think that is the best combination that I have seen. The only combo I'd like better is if you swap out Williams for Kanter.

I think on more than one occasion, Givony has said Ford is more in the know than he is. He's a scout, and he does get paid by some NBA teams I believe (or else where would he get the coin to travel to Treviso for a few days?)

I'm getting cold feet on Singleton. I thought he was on the verge of becoming a good offensive player before he got hurt during the season, and supposedly he got way out-classed by Marcus Morris in workouts. And I'm not a Tyler fan - 18 is too high for him, imo. Going with your trades, I'd go:
3 - Kanter - self-explanatory
12 - Faried - undersized, but there's something special about his energy level - in technical terms, he's got an aura about him that separates him even defensively from Singleton and Booker, and he's a better rebounder than they are. Booker might measure out as good or better as an athlete, but Faried is a more fluid athlete - able to start and stop on a dime.
18 - Harper - volume 3 point shooter at either forward position and a better athlete with more scoring versatility than given credit for. Very nice fit for the Zards.
19 - Brooks - best value.
34 - Rick Jackson - I think he's an underrated working class big with good team skills who knows his role and does it game in and game out.

34 might be too high for a guy who may never come over. But if the talent is there -- and depending on what happens at 6 and 18 -- perhaps he's worth a flier.

Hmmm, my immediate thought was that Nikola got several FO calls and a draft-night promise from some team, he's a perfect stasher.

If Mirotic stays in the draft, I highly doubt he'll be available at 34. I see a good team in the mid 20s of the draft taking him to stash and hopefully bring him over in three or four years, if he really is that good. If our scouts really like him (and I trusted our scouts) he'd be well worth buying a first round pick for and taking him in that mid 20s range.

Bertans is staying in too. Fraschilla insists that if a team can wait three years, he's going to be a steal.

What do you guys think of Mirotec vs Bertans vs Harper? All three are excellent shooters, but it seems like draft and stash might almost be a better strategy for us right now, at least in the mid-first.

Thanks, Ruz. I hear ya on Singleton, and I hope others share your opinion. Maybe he'll be there at #18 after all. ;-) I just don't put that much value in the workouts, and take his body of work from the regular season - where he was credibly called the best defender in college basketball - as an NBA-ready skill. And whatever he did after the injury was certainly impacted by his health, so I'd look past that as well.

I do like Harper, and thought of putting him in there as well. He would definitely be a great fit, so no worries. I'm not too enamored with Tyler either, although the subterfuge does point to heavy interest from EG. And if McGee goes out in the trade, Ernie will be looking for a replacement. Maybe Biyombo at 12 instead of Faried or Singleton?

And no way he doesn't take a Euro (I kinda forget that Kanter is technically a Euro, with his UK connection and all...)

Draft and stash does have a strong appeal because it allows the team to develop its younger players in a more rational way. Plus, it allows the team to sign some short-term vets who hopefully will help the young players on the roster learn to play the right way. Of course, a draft and stash guy should have significant potential and some reasonable chance of eventually coming to the NBA, otherwise it gets closer simply to wasting a pick.

I know very little about Mirotic and Bertans, but I'd say - it's a helluvalot better to have a player now than maybe get him 3 or 4 years from now.

Btw, am I crazy or... could Jimmer go 3rd in this draft? I'm pencilling him in there right now.

I don't think you can pass up Mirotic in the second round. I think 18 is to early for him, but mid-20s might work in a trade down scenario.

The great thing about stashing Mirotic is he would be coming over to the NBA in his prime when the Wizards have had a chance to develop some young talent.

In this draft, I don't think it's crazy to think Jimmer could go 3rd, all things considered. As for the draft and stash, I actually like it as a strategy if you're selecting someone with serious potential. I don't know if Mirotic or Bertans fits that description. There are only so many young players a team can develop simultaneously.

:o

Maybe, if Jimmer is sure to be gone by 12. But who would take him? Toronto and Sacto would be their biggest competition for guards IMO but I'm assuming they'd be taking Knight and Walker (in either order). After that, the other teams would seem to be looking for bigs or wings IMO.

But even if they were convinced that they couldn't get him at 12, they could still trade down from 3 in a scenario where they still get Fredette but also pick up something else in the process.

RealGM's latest mock: http://basketball.realgm.com/article/21 ... Version_30

6 - Leonard
18 - Markieff Morris

Not a bad draft if we got those two, IMO.

Sacto was reportedly extremely impressed by him, so if they want him at 7, it leaves some room for Utah to trade down - but not a lot.

Mcgee is a better post player and rebounder than Kanter.
Mcgee is this team best post defender, best rebounder, best shotblocker, and to cap things off...he is this teams best offensive post player.
U guys think an over weight joe johnson type player who needs the ball in is his hands is a better fit with john wall longterm...wow.
U guys wanna replace one of the hardest position to fill with a joe johnson scorer who needs the ball in his hands to be effective.

Remember derrick williams didn't not not dominate defensively at lower competition, and he needs the ball iin his hands on the perimeter taking the ball out of walls hands and making him into a shooter.
Derrick williams is basically is playing ball dominant point forward just like joe johnson.
Derrick williams makes a penetrating point guard much less valuable.

The other thought I have is that u feel that derrick williams will be an excellent pick and pop forward but is a pick and pop forward who can't guard power forwards worth giving up your young center. If eg planned on giving mcgee he wouldn't have traded haywood and instead signed him. No way eg is going into the season a front court not capable of blocking a shot.
Most of the closet jamison fans who cleveland had coming off the bench lnow that their offense with no defense is what lead to the failed big three experiment.
Most of derrick williams fans thought jamison was the best player on the team until they saw him riding the pine in cleveland. Huge ego crush to realize your offense no defense is a poor way to evaluate if a player is a true star.
Build your team w/5 shooters using P. Pierce Form deeply bent hips and lower back arch at same time b4 rising into shot. Elbow never pointing to the ground! Good teams have an engine player that shoot volume (2000 full season) at 50 percent.Large Hands
