Re: NBA Finals Thread: Mavericks vs. Heat
For me the best part is this was Miami's one and only chance.
This heat team as constructed won't be possible under the new CBA.

The good thing about BI is he can shoot over defenders.
The bad thing about BI is he can shoot over defenders.

Why not? The Heat's payroll is only 67 M
What's less possible is anopther Mavs team with a 90 M payroll.

Maybe Mark Cuban took this out as a extra special Monday morning foot-to-the-balls for Heat fans? He's devious. We won't put it past him.
Just for extra effect, the ad runs directly under a banner headline about how badly the Heat's point guard's sucked and a all-caps header proclaiming: DALLAS WINS BEST OF 7 SERIES 4-2.
Thanks, Miami Herald. You are the fourth-quarter LeBron James of local sports coverage:

Why would that be in the paper when they had no shot at winning yesterday anyway?
If the Heat won they still would have to play game seven. Makes no sense.

When Dirk marched off the court, it was to put a call out to his Macy's rep.

Re: NBA Finals Thread: Mavericks vs. Heat
The one thing that bothered me about the Heat was not laying Barea the f'k out.
It was the Finals and if i was Spo, I would have brought in Anthony, and told him that the next time JJ went in, make him pay dearly.
Finals basketball, gotta do it.
Yet another Heat fail.
And as Miami heat fans are tools, I hope they feel this one hard.

My first thought when I saw this was marketting ploy. Macy's is getting tons of free publicity from this.

What if the next CBA has a hard cap of 50M? They have to amnesty Bosh...
I suspect that the big three won't allow them to actually have a complete roster with the new cap...

if the next CBA has a hard cap at 50, ignore miami for a second: what do you think the rest of the league is going to do? dallas, for example, at ~$90+MM? lakers near the same? by your logic they'll have to 'amnesty' half their rosters. hmmm?
which should tell you all you need to know- even if they do bring in a hard cap, there'll be an extended period of transition (and a myriad of tools at their disposal) to allow teams to align themselves with the new system. either that or you'd have half the league on the sidelines next season, disqualified from play, waiting for their payrolls to expire. i wonder which is more likely.
it's sort of why i've grown so cynical of the raptors, in particular. all this talk about how they're putting themselves in a good position vis a vis the new CBA is public relations. it's not relevant. the raptors will tell you they're allowing their bosh TPE to expire for the sake of maintaining flexibility in the new system. the reality is the new system has nothing to do with it. if the new CBA is half as revolutionary as the league wants to believe, it will come with amnesty/escape clauses by the boatload. you don't need to let assets expire today for the sake of staying flexible for the future. you can deal with that later, when everyone else is- if for no other reason than that half the league will be in the same position. in a sense, there's no other way to implement any new system.
it's funny how teams like the lakers and mavs hardly pass a glance at the new cba and the handcuffs that may come with it. they couldn't care less right now. while teams like the raptors, ever-conscious of excuses to save money, continue to feed misinformation and half-information to their fans. "new cba!" (but not yet?) "team's for sale!" (is it?) "we don't need to add players, we have a solid young core..." (do you?)
and going back to the original point, bosh won't get amnestied. i mean, let's just get that straight.
peace

OK well I must admit to some wishful thinking. I totally forgot about the transition...
Teams like Dallas and LA will make Dirk and Kobe their "franchise" player so they won't count toward the cap. Miami doesn't have that option...so they'll be hit the hardest...(right? Pleazzze tell me I'm right?)
